Hi the problem i have is that i have just brought and had fitted a second hand auto gearbox for my 1995 w124 e220 estate from a well known second hand mb parts site, But when the box arrived we noticed the part number was ground off and a couple of the fittings on the box were slightly different to mine, We fitted it anyway but found a couple issues, it slipped when changing gear at high speeds and revs and also it seems like at high revs it gets confused when changing gear and pops in to neutral before it makes its mind up what it wants to do.
We think the box is not what the sight is saying it is which it should be a 722,428 another reason why we think this is they qouted me over £200 but i referred them to there sight which showed one for £100 and because of this they had to let me have it for £100.
Is there away i can find out what box it is with the main part number ground off?

many thanks steve

That is bad Steve, the box needs to be exact for many reasons, did it have the torque converter with it, as that will have a number on it I think

It is the first section of numbers that give the type, the last set are only the serial number, can you put up what numbers you have and the numbers on the old box
