Hello
Can anyone help me pls. 2007 E class 280 with Command. Mobile connected via Bluetooth. Has worked fine since new.

Now finding little or no signal (no bars on the display) except in really strong signal areas. Phone works fine when disconnected from car.

I suspect that this is either an aerial cable problem / cable connection problem / or the transmitter unit is on its way out.

Can someone tell me please where the transmitter is located in the car and the route that the aerial cable follows so I can check it out.

Thanks

Peter

If you are connected via Bluetooth there is no aerial connection to the Comand.

Yes, I realise that. But there must be a connection between the transmitter in the car and the aerial on the roof of the car.

What I'd like to know is where the transmitter is located and what route the aerial cable follows to the 'shark fin' on the roof.

There is no transmitter in the car. There are various receivers, radio, TV and gps , if fitted.
There would only be a direct connection between your mobile and the cars external antennae,if it was plugged into some form of connector.
It isn't. You are connected by a blue tooth signal.
Have you recently changed the place, in the car, where you store the phone. This may cause a loss of signal.

hello
I think there must be a transmitter somewhere. The reason I say this is that the car also has a handset of its own which can be used with a sim card.

The Bluetooth I referred to just allows the Car's Command system to take over the SIM card in my phone.

Thanks

It depends exactly on how your system is set up. I believe that with a 2007 E-Class you will have NTG2.5 which has Bluetooth built in, however if you connect to this you are only using COMAND as a Bluetooth headset, not as an SAP module. Telephone signal / reception is handled via the phone.

Only if you connect via an SAP module (or a direct cradle and phone) plugged in to the car will it actually use the car ariel system for the phone.

HTH,
Bill

Thanks Bill
How do I tell which one is in the car?
The signal thing is strange. If I disconnect the phone from Bluetooth it shows plenty of signal but when connected via Bluetooth the signal can drop 3 or 4 bars on the Command display or be lost all toghether. Its the same for all phones I've tried so must be a fault in the car.

Do you know where the aerial cable runs?

Thanks

Not sure if you can tell directly from COMAND, but if you have an SAP module, it will be in a cradle fitted in to the front centre arm rest. I believe that in this scenario, you have to pair the phone with the SAP module rather than directly with COMAND via the screen menus.

Cheers,
Bill

Hmm. Sounds like it's all set up properly - the other test for SAP that I just remembered, is if connected this way, you can send and read SMS text messages on the COMAND screen.

What is your radio reception like? I presume they use the same Ariel system / amplifier, though I'm not an expert on the 211.

Cheers,
Bill

Yes SMS on command screen and works when command shows signal.

Radio reception is good and hasn't changed its just the phone signal that has virtually vanished. Hence I wonder about the aerial cable. - maybe the plug has come half out or something but without knowing where to look its a needle in a haystack.

Reached the limit of my knowledge now I'm afraid. You could try dropping the guys at comandonline.co.uk an email - they are usually very knowledgeable and helpful on such matters.

I have the same problem. Hands-free mobile working fine then suddenly yesterday there are no signal bars on the radio where there should be three bars here, and there is now no telephone service. The Bluetooth connection is there. The mobile works beautifully in the car with the radio off.
How does the radio get the signal from the car aerial? Is the an aerial wire that has become disconnected?

250E estate 2010 standard Mercedes fitted radio, iPhone X. The signal strength bars are suddenly empty despite the phone having a good signal. Is there the equivalent of a dongle on the radio that may have fallen off or is the function an intrinsic part of the radio which will have to be replaced?

An E250. W211 or 212? Does it have round headlights or square edged ones?
