Looking to get back into an E63. Drove one from the merc dealers - 1 yr old 3500 miles. KY67 AGO

lovely car but on the test drive it has brake judder. They have said they will sort it. I have asked for the new discs/pads. They havnt confirmed they will but have ordered new discs in case. Im hoping to collect next week and said unless new discs I would not be comfortable with it.

I suspect it may have been a press car and the brakes over heated/not beded in sensibly for the first 1000 miles.

Had lots of high performance cars from new and always first 1000 miles was gentle and never had issues with brakes later. Have had warped discs on older cars so pretty sure they are warped. Not sure if a pad build up but tried to burn off on the drive but made the judder more pronounced. Passenger could feel the floor of the car juddering. Wheel balance felt fine. rest of car fine. disc had a slight blue tinge to one (overheated?)

Ive checked on google for the number plate but nothing comes up. Wanted to ask if anyone knew of this car? and if my thoughts on the judder are sensible.

Brakes or an egg in one of the tyres would be my thoughts
At that age if buying from MB I’d not be paying for it until it’s fixed

Why not ask the dealer? Matt Gateley there will be able to help you I'm sure. V helpful chap. It pays to talk in the real world, not everything is on the internet

KY is a Milton Keynes registration prefix so could be a press car or a Management car, or one used at Brooklands or could be made of cheese, or whatever other theory anyone wants to propose :rolleyes:

Sandown did have a G63 ex press car to shift in 2016. You Tube has lots of clips of that one.

Apart from getting the dealer to resolve the braking issue you could ask them the vehicle's history. If it was a press car, MB UK will have keep a detailed history of everything that has happened to the car. You can ask the dealer to provide a copy.

I bought my E400 in similar circumstances. I knew it was previously owned by MB UK from the V5c but only after delivery I found out it was a press car. Nothing necessarily wrong with a press car and mine was used by one journalist for long-term test (I have a copy of his test report and photos). The MB UK vehicle history sheet was very reassuring with more history than you usually get with a used car. It had had no repairs and no faults were reported. An advantage of buying a press car is they are usually very highly specced to impress the journos.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Agree with @keefysher above. He posted while I was still slowly writing:)

My car also came from Sandown who tell me they buy in quite a lot of ex MB cars, especially high performance, high spec cars.

It might just have a rusty patch on the disc from where they constantly wash the cars on the forecourt and never dry the brakes.

A car of that condition and spec I would hazard a guess thats its been demonstrator. These cars will get thrashed brutally I would think and would make sense it has got a degree of warped disks.
I think new pads and discs all round would cure this. Only take the car when you are happy of course as I guess it is not going to be cheap. I would also get them to check the tracking and the links, bushes

good luck and do let us know how you get on!

Thank you - yes - was posting during the interim period of waiting for them to come back today with what they find with the brakes and to make sure what I was asking or expecting was reasonable.

Just addressing the comment that these cars will get thrashed brutally....yip and that’s what they are for and designed to do- just saying I’d rather have a thrashed E63 than a thrashed E220

not too worried on that front but if bits need replacing then they need replacing and brakes are an item if it has been used with enthusiasm will show it if not looked after for the first 500 or 1000 miles. Again not an issue if they are replaced. Apart from the brakes it drove very nicely and felt good.

Exactly right you should get a 3.5k car with near new brakes and tyres imo

If the brakes distorted after a bit of heavy use, then they aren’t up to the job.

Looking at the bottom of the disc in the picture I've (hopefully) attached below, it would seem that the above is the correct answer...

Would that not be scrubbed off after a bit of driving? On other cars Ive had yes a light build up does occur if not used but quickly scrubs off after use. This didnt feel like that and I did some pretty hard braking to try to clear it on the test run. Hopefully find out some more today.

That wont clear, always dry the brakes after washing.

I know this thread is very old but same situation for me, my C43 was an ex-demo had done 9k miles when i bought it and when i was driving it home i noticed the brakes didnt feel right, i rung the AMG dealership (birmingham) who said it had been sitting there for a while it will be fine... ignored and took it to my local mercedes who said it had brake judder. Rang Birmingham merc back and told them what it was, said ok well get the garage to ring me....

later that day my local merc ring me ... no need to bother the AMG garage, AMG directly have agreed to replace all the brakes under warranty.

Car has been fine ever since :)

Ex-Demo cars have obviously been thrashed!
