I'm very glad I didn't go for a CL or E55 now as the complexity is far too much!! The CLK being simpler is much easier to work with :D

You have proved that with the work you have done yourself, the CL is a no no for me ATM due to the complexity of parts although they are beautiful cars

Yeah, there's something about them that just makes you want one but my biggest worry was the ABC and I'm glad I dodged that bullet. Any system like that I end up with usually ends in tears...

everybody wouldn't want that, assuming they had ANYTHING between their ears except cotton wool! apart from anything else, who on earth thought having an electronic braking system was a good idea anyhow?

BMW with my K1200RS.
One electric pump for front brakes,
one for rear.
Electronics sealed within the same servo unit.
9 bleed points (yep honestly),
reservoirs for primary cct's and for secondary cct's.

There are 2 pre check lights between the clocks, on rolling they go out, if not the coded flashes inform of the fault (after referring to the manual). A fault in the system will drop the servo out reducing brake efficiency to approx 10%.

New servos approx £1,200 from BMW.

The brakes are fantastic and saved me a few times cos the machine can be into triple figures far too easily.

Now the down side, too literally,
enjoying the bike, approaching a long sweeper "what's that flashing li".

You could be in luck though. The key to it is the service history, a car that has had much frequent service work done is likely to be in far better condition than one bought from a highly dodgy used car dealer on the edge of a farmers field- like where I found my "bargain"!

I only own 1 Merc so it needs to be reliable

Why restrict yourself to just one? There's limitation right there!

I only have the one Merc as well which also has to be reliable. I would be happy to expand the collection but I'm smitten with the Volvo for now :)

I am ashamed to say I've bought some pretty complex cars from some very dodgy locations before today!! I was determined not to do the same with the CLK so I'm very happy with my nice thick binder of receipts to scare people thinking of buying one of these off with ;)

I have given the CLK some thought I must confess. But then I do some big sweeping bends at speed and think, ahhh ABC...

But ABC didn't like Spandau Ballet so maybe there is the problem ;)

Elegance and efficiency do rather go hand in hand when one gets down to brass tacks...

My 1st Merc, a W211 E220 Elegance was not very elegant with horrible tacky woodgrain trim. Wheres my W221 Blue Efficiency was much much better :shock:
The first had several punctures, from clouts left by roofers rather than brass tacks. :alien::alien:

More news from CLK world, things are going well, no more SRS lights and after resetting the seats by moving them to their extremities the comfort entry/exit feature is working properly again. The big news will be here in just over a week or so as I'll be removing the steering wheel and gearknob to send them away to Hide N Seat in Durham for retriming. Very much looking forward to that and will update in a few days when I remove the bits as they've asked me to send them toward the end of next week as they have a complete interior to trim before then! Excited much :D

Funny I had a similar urge for a CL500 it was only when I measured my garage and realized my motorcycle would have to live out in the cold that I went off the idea. :(
