If you decide Nationwide , go with a joint account and you and Mrs LK are covered
That's true - it's personal cover for either of you in any car even as a passenger. I have had to use the breakdown service this year, first when my battery died and then to take my S203 to Mercland on a Relay truck when it was giving me error warnings. Superb service.

Dear All,

You certainly are an informative bunch, I have written about 4 missives and have yet to me "Flamed" once, so I think I will go and pay my £43 for full membership.

I might also, for once be able to offer something back to you all here, regarding breakdown membership. I joined GEM breakdown service for about £80 a year. They say they offer full breakdown cover and roadside recovery back to your home address. The beauty of this service is that you are covered for what ever you happen to be driving, so for me it covers the car the motorbike and the SLK 200 ( when/if it arrives?). However. I must admit that due to the extent of my my mechanical prowess or perhaps good fortune, I have never broken down and had to test their services. They might be worth a second look.

I live around Oxford for those who offered to suggest approved garages as alternatives to main dealers.

Many thanks once again to all.

Regards Tedfred

There's a few of us in the area. I'm about 40 miles away and GLK is only a few miles from me. If you fancy meeting up at some stage we do periodic meets so keep an eye on events. Next one will likely be June I guess.

Hi Lost Kiwi

Definitely, that sounds like a great idea, Please keep me informed of your next meeting.

While I am here; I have a load of questions regarding cleaning and proofing leather seats and also methods of wiring in Dash cams on a SLK 200 R172. I do not think I will be thanked for moving this thread further off topic so I wish to open a new thread but for the life of me I can not see where on this website you do this. Strange I know as I managed to open this thread ok.

Thanks regards

When you see the main page with the list of all the main subject areas , click on say "general Mercedes discussion " and then in the top right corner you will see "new thread" . Click on this and you are good to go ....try and avoid titles that say Help/emergency etc . Use the title to detail the problem instead . Good luck

Thank you Wighty,

Just to keep you posted, I am told to expect the SLK to be delivered tomorrow at 10am.
Though I am keeping an open mind on the situation.

Excellent news buddy . You could start a thread titled my new SLk , plenty of pics (we all love pics) , then you could update that thread with things you do to the car , even if you start seperate threads for specific problems . Just a thought :D

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
As I do not want to be mislead into losing my 3 year warranty, is there a list I can access of Mercedes approved service centres.

I am reluctant to use the service facilities in the dealership I bought the car from, for reasons explained above.

Which warranty is it? Cars can be serviced anywhere under the original 3yr warranty but if it's a used car warranty then the terms might not be the same, you need to check them.

There used to be a bunch of Authorised repairers that were basically the old dealers that Mercedes canned in a big re-org in the early 2000's but I think they're mostly gone now. There's a few in this list but don't know how current it is: http://www.mercedes-retailers.co.uk/mercedes/dealers_county.php

So, I finally got the car, spent Saturday clearing more out of the garage to get it in, practiced driving in and out down past the side of the house with a six inch gap either side of the car. Heart stopping procedure. I do not know whether to carry on using the garage or risk the neighbours cat clawing their reflection on the bonnet.

I have to say that 389 insurance and 347 for Gap insurance is a bit steep. I will post some images this weekend if I can work out how to, so you can all give an opinion as to weather I have been ripped off.

Regards as always to all.

Dear All,

Just to add a final chapter to this thread; on my final visit to the dealer after the Manager had become involved, when viewing the car he took exception to the marks/damage to the wheel rims. The damage he said he would rectify, which I thought was very thoughtful at the time.
This weekend some two weeks later I started detailing the car and as a first step removed the wheels to clean them prior to spraying them was Auto Gleam's magic compound.
On the inside on the wheel hub there were a number of dark stains which could not be removed with Built Hamber, a pressure washer, wire wool , P1200 wet and dry, T Cut etc etc. It took me a while but finally realised that the wheels had not recently been removed from the car ( they were rusted onto the disk hubs) and obviously the rims had been repaired and then sprayed without the debris/brake dust being cleaned off the inner wheel rims. Hence the stains are actually brake dust which has been lacquered onto the wheel.
I find it hard to believe that anyone would fail to clean a wheel prior to lacquer the dirt into it. I will remind you this is a Mercedes dealer we are talking about, not some back street car dealer.

Can anyone estimate the price of having a wheel stripped and resprayed , that's resprayed when its clean.

Regards to you all

Tedfred

I would have thought that the MB dealer should rectify the wheels . Tell them you will spend your days off greeting new customers in a clown suit if they don't .
If you pay yourself I would guess £2-300 .

For one wheel? Less than £100.
