Happy New Year to all.

SL350 brokedown over Christmas and now needs a repair. Transmission module is my guess and a complete disconnect between selector and drive wheels.

I will need to have the vehicle uplifted to a specialists to sort it. Any recommendations for a specialist garage near Leicester with diagnostic equipment and skills to sort it out?

Some of the garages I’ve spoken to have been unwilling to take on the challenge due to not having deep enough diagnostic equipment.

Was driving down the motorway and suddenly lost drive. Coasted to a hardshoulder and got relayed home.

Gear selector level moves but no front or rear gear engages. Engine seems fine though and revs beautifully. It just doesn’t drive the car anymore.

Does the diary show a change of gear in the selector window on the dash when you move the lever? Could be as simple as insufficient fluid (which will beg the question of where has it gone).

.............(which will beg the question of where has it gone).

It goes all over the under carriage, driveway and road surface. Which ours did when the switch leaked ;) then I had no forward or reverse gears  It only took about 2 litres and a switch replacement to fix things :D

Thank you all for your thoughts. I have booked it in with Jay at Mercland and I’ll let you all know the outcome.

Just have to get it recovered over to them now and brace myself for a post Christmas bill

Just an update on the SL. Currently, it’s with Mercland who I trust will sort out some of the little darlings glitches.

The R230 is a lovely looking machine, but she needs a whole lot of loving and demanding on the wallet when things go wrong. And they do seem to do so.

They're like a high society mistress - need constant attention, plenty of money, and lots of TLC.

LostKiwi seems to be the favourite it the diagnostic race.

Mercland tried the module fix first and no joy. So the very clever bods there are know considering the no fluid option next. So the hunt for ‘where has all the fluid gone continues’.

So sounds like a good call on your part LostKiwi. I’ll let you know what they find.

So glad to have been pointed to Mercland, as they are being very thorough and I’ve got good vibes that my Penelope will live again.

Glad she's in good hands.
The other possibility is a failed transmission oil pump or bad Transmission ECU.

My repair journey continues. Torque converter has been rebuilt and reinstalled.

Thought we were home and dry with the repairs. Unfortunately, life is not being that kind and my SL continues to try my patience.

The gear seems to be slipping out of gear intermittently. So maybe there is a gear selector issue too.

Any other ideas are welcome

Have the gearbox oil level checked. Low oil level can cause similar symptoms.

Not sure if all the gears are slipping. Was informed that the car drives fine but occasionally it slips a gear every now and then.

Have not had the car since December as it’s been in the repairers, so only have limited feedback of the fault.

Just hope they can find and fix the problem

Finally got the SL back along with some brackets left and forgotten about in the boot.

The car is running again though, so that’s a positive. It’s great fun to drive but these bills are killing me.

Seriously considering if my time as an owner of the SL is coming to an end. Maybe the last summer.
