I have had my single key tested and it is transmitting both IR and RF. However, I seem to remember that the EIS was repaired by the previous owner. Could something not been written correctly? I don't know if my car came with separate key cards or not but I would be happy just to get it to unlock and lock with the RF!

If you have KG keys (as in keys with the KG technology built in) then separate keycards would not be used.

As it has never worked and I only have 1 key, I simply don't know if its the type with the KE built into the key or with separate key cards. One problem at a time!

Ah ok. 2003 it could be either.
A star session may help. STAR can interrogate the KG controller and return the presence of a KG key.

When the car was put on star, it could not communicate with the Keyless ECU. So we thought it was faulty. I also tried it with icarsoft and it also cannot find it. So we changed the ECU and icarsoft still cannot find it.

Does the car definitely have KG?
Its a SL55 AMG (I think all had KG), it has the button on the doors and the button on the gearshift. It also has a keyless ECU fitted so I can only assume it does.

Ok. It may be a CAN issue as it's located on CAN bus B.
Attached is a document for the later system that may help explain it.

Thanks. I do have some errors coming up for the overhead panel, could it be that?

Possibly but I think the OCP is only the location for one of the antenna amplifiers. If you OCP errors it's probably wise to fix them since the OCP is involved in the KG.

Do you know if the OCP is involved in the RF unlocking side of things as well and not just KG?

Same problem.
Just bought a new key from M.B and the key only works when right up against the sensor and only after many clicks.
Has any previous members successfully cured this?

I think you will find it is the right hand pre-amp, the one on the drivers side. To get to it you will have to remove the dashboard.
A long, but not unduly difficult job. you might then find it is not the pre-amp at all, possibly the antenna connections. To check this remove the A pillar interion cover & the antenna to pre-amp connections will be revealed. Alternatively wiring from pre-amp to other bits which control the lock/unlock function.

Get WIS - it will make life much easier.
Hello

Hi did you get to the bottom of the problem?
Unfortunately no I've not had the time and I'm using the physical key to get in and out

Mine too is a 2003 sl55

Having same issues with locking/unlocking. Can only get in through key or IR.
But!!1 if i turn on the radio with the key out of ignition then press lock/unlock on the remote and the doors
work fine.!

It will lock and alarm from across the garage as long as the radio is on. Soon as you turn it off the locking stops
working.

Any ideas?
