That seems to be about a 45% increase in power and torque. I know that most owners don't use this new-found power all the time, but I would be concerned about such a radical increase and it's effects on the engine components.

Sorry it's 57 bhp increase I mentioned the gearbox no being able to take the added torque he assured me in saying the gearbox is set at 550 torque and he will be only upping it to 500 torque ive never had a remap before so i am apprehensive.....

I'm less concerned about the 'box and more concerned about the engine to be honest and I'll give you a small example of why I'm worried on your behalf.

This example is not Mercedes but Land Rover TD5 - 5 cylinder Turbo diesel. Back in the day many peeps were wanting a big more go than the std. 136 bhp and so went down the remap route pushing the power to on average 165-170 bhp. And they drove much better - for a while.

Then a number of owners began to report a strange whistling noise coming from the engine on acceleration. It was diagnosed to be a leak of exhaust gases coming from the interface between the head and the exhaust manifold. Further research found that the manifold had warped, often taking 2 exhaust studs with it.

More clever people than I began investigating this and found the problem. They measured the std engine exhaust gas temps and compared them with the remapped cars EGT's and found that the remapped engine had EGT's significantly higher (can't remember the exact % but something like 25% higher) than the std. engine. They concluded that whilst not every engine was affected (probably due to driver differences,) a large proportion of remapped cars needed to have their exhaust manifold planed flat and installed with stronger studs and nuts.

So whilst the example above does not relate to your car directly, it does cast doubt on the remappers claims of "no problems" for your engine.

But it's up to you to choose..........................

These days I go for greater efficiency rather than re-mapping, so I use the most 'low drag' transmission oils & tyres, always have tyre pressures correct, don't carry unnecessary weight, over-service car with new air filters every other minute and cleaned MAF and MAP sensors. Optimising my vehicles, in short.

The 220 engine is the same as the 250 with mapping and turbo differences only. So it isn't unfeasible to expect it to achieve around 250 levels on a remap (177bhp ==> 204bhp). 57bhp increase would take the engine to 234bhp. Now, knowing MB engines I'd not be overly worried about the engine handling it...

The transmission is already accepting 440Nm from a stock 220 setup, adding 100Nm takes it to 320/350 territory.

I'm not sure what the 7G-Tronic transmission on the 220 is set up to handle, one of our indies might like to comment.

GAD have been used by a number of forum members, comments seem favourable. NB they do not have a rolling road so maps are generic and not tuned to your specific car.

Need to correct you on this Craig:

All their maps are bespoke to the car, each one is mapped individually after interrogating the car's ECU. I watched Anthony do mine, took over an hour to get it all correct.

They do have a Rolling Road by "Dyno Developments"

im somewhat of a veteran where remaps are concerned , getting on towards 40 cars so far , never had a gearbox failure , well never had any issues at all bar my old 159jtd eating its clutch after 13k with a map on but that clutch was already 70k old at the time so not unexpected really , you need to remember that it will still feed the power in like the original map so not like an assault on the engine / transmission everytime you go near the throttle pedal pal

I've had my 2003 w211 E320 CDI remapped to 297hp and 604Nm on a Dyno, with no hardware changes. Like most people I don't use the extra power all that often. I haven't had any problems with the engine or gearbox, or anything else, the car has now done 119000miles and was remapped at 107000.

As far as I'm concerned as long as it's remapped by someone who knows what there doing and the car has been serviced properly then you'll be fine.

I've decided after much research lots of phone calls to Naz at GAD TUNING to go ahead and have my car remapped.....I've spoken to **** technicians at Mercedes dealers and really fantastic ones ....spoken to my Mercedes specialist garage.....and even brabus ( which for nearly two grand offered less than what im getting ) for £400 from GAD i am going with the northwest guy whos in Newcastle upon tyne ( if your wondering brabus offered a chip only with increased fuel and increased turbo boost ) naz at GAD is offering 45 to 55 modifications to my original ecu map with a copy of my original map coz i got all anal about....what if something goes wrong lol.....so 220 bhp and 500 tourque.....from 167 bhp and 400 tourque standard....ive learnt the 250 engine and the 220 is not the same engine brabus and main dealer confirmed this.....ive tried to give as much information as i can to share with anybody interested here....remap in 2/3 weeks with an update and regular update to follow......thanks to all you guys for posting much appreciated thanks again

All I can say it’s good you done your home work and got a reptulal place to get it done ,, about 8 yrs ago I got a 2.5 Touareg dome and the guy pushed me to max out , 6 weeks later going over mountain Rd it broke the cam shaft , after getting it checked out I was informed it was 90% the remap.
So wish I had done the research first , it was a costly experience.
