Mb refer to that as a rear caster arm.

Not quite a caster arm.....:)

If your vehicle designation is a W208.447
Its the Bush numbered 8 in the image Part number A2203520227

Check the Cars (W) designation first though, the video posted above shows a W211 set up, a bit different

Aha! I would call that a lower control arm bush. Thought it was a 211 as per the video.

Yeah, those are the type. I agree they look 'single use'.

You can sometimes use a pair of sockets, a couple of big washers and a long bolt to pull bushes out. One socket needs to be small enough to fit where the bush was and the other socket big enough to accept the bush.

And you can get to it from behind without having to remove all the wheel components. There looks like enough access but I haven't done it?

All the above works for removal including (worse case scenario):
Air chisels
Air hammers
Air saws
Oxy Acetylene
Sledge hammer

But.........................

If it plays nicely then a cheap puller or home made affair of sockets thread bar nuts washers etc.

Take care not to damage the bush refitting it though.

Trunnion... the last time I heard that word I was driving a car that had a foot operated dipswitch.

Was planning on making one using a scissor jack as it has the best thread for the job.
Finding the correct sized spacers is the hardest part, there's not much leeway on these.

Keep it simple...........

Strip down and see how tight it is in there before over engineering the job.

I've had these tap out and drift in with a hammer and socket before.

Clean up the bush retaining housing and lubricate liberally when refitting.

On other models it appears that you have to strip down the discs (main and handbrake) and compress the springs. Is this true for the W208.448 or can you just release from the rear. Tried searching on WIS but cannot find the right terms. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I'm not sure but I did both of mine on a different car years ago, and I think its a 40mm outside diameter bush. Ive one of those threaded bars with nuts on set up, so you need one a bit less than 40mm or a large socket, and a `pipe` a bit bigger inside than 40mm and washer, and a long thread bar. Get it tight, then a sharp tap and mine came out dead easy. Clean the `hole` and repeat for fitting the new one. Its a fairly quick job.

OK tackled it today. Did it by just removing the bolt through the bush and the rear anti-roll bar (?). The bolt was difficult to get to and quite solidly in so needy careful treatment. Dropped the wheel far enough to put the tool purchased above through fleabay. Fiddly to say the least and my bushes were in well and true. 15 years of time meant they were well and truly in there. However, with some WD40 and gentle persuasion I tightened the tool and with much readjustment it finally gave way albeit it felt like the tool would give way first. The readjustment was required to ensure the smaller bell (socket part) was on the bush and in the slot, not pushed to one side so it wouldn't go in. It felt like I was stripping the thread of the tool but finally it did give way and out it all popped. Putting the new bush in again was tricky as you had to make sure the socket was over the bush rubber and able to again push the bush in straight. The last mm was the hardest as I wanted to ensure it was fully home. Then it was quiet a chore to line the suspension up so the bolt would go back in the bush but with some patience a bottle jack to push up the suspension to position and gentle leverage finally got the bolt through from the rear as it had come out. The other side was similar and again well and truly in there but finally it gave way and started creaking out and pop. The tool had ball bearing rings and one cracked and gave way so I used a large washer to replace and that worked ok. Not sure the tool could be used again. It wasn't bad and eventually did the job but a little more strength wouldn't go amiss.

Now I did the main securing bolts on the bush up to 40nm as I couldn't really find any reference to it but this maybe a little low? Does anybody know the correct torque setting for the bush bolts.

I wouldn't call it easy and if you rush you 'll probably curse. Took me about 3.5 hours in total. The first being longer.

Thanks for everyone's help on this and hope this might help others.
