Hi
I am thinking of replacing my 2004 E class with a 2016 model (W213). I want petrol as I only do about 5000 miles a year but not the AMG due to high running costs and wanting to keep my licence.

I am seeing a lot of E200s but no E250s all the 250s are facelifted W212s. I am a bit worried that 180 bhp in a car this size might be a underpowered. Does anybody know whether the E200 can be remapped for a bit more power?

Good morning,

Both the 200 and 250 are identical engines my friend! So you need not worry about the 184bhp and both the 200 and 250 end up at the 230-240bhp mark anyway!

Many thanks

Surely the 200 has a single stage turbo whereas the 220 and 250 has twin?

Thanks,

That is what I was hoping to hear. Probably won't be buying until about April so I will keep open to both models.

Hi,

I do want the 4 doors and the CLS looks great outside but a bit dated inside. The W213 E class has a really modern looking interior

If I might suggest Pete, look at the torque figures rather than bhp.

Torque figures are expressed in lbs/ft or newton/mtrs and the important thing is: at what revs do engines produce their peak torque ? As you are well aware diesels produce their torque at lower revs than normal petrol units, however with a good re-map a turbo powered petrol engine can do similar.

Torque is the thing that gives you that deep-chested sense or power, under your right foot.

For just a bit more you could have mine with 704 bhp and 839 lb/ft torque... problem solved ( except the running cost and licence retention bit):)

Good comment

I had a smart remapped for better torque in the midrange.

I will be looking for similar when and if I buy an E200
