Hi,

I bought a mercedes 'C' Class Estate 'T' model. After 2nd day the immobiliser key fell apart and the car wouldnt start just before that

A garage has said they can fix it for 900 pound including an ignition coil, replacement keys and new computer (cant remember the exact phrase).

I want to know: Can the car have the immobiliser totally disabled and be able to start the car without, and use a normal key ? How much will it cost, and is it worth it ? (someone know if its cheaper and it can be done) ?

The garage has just put the car through an MOT and passed.

Your advise please ?

New member asking how to get the immobiliser disabled. Hmmm.

If the immobiliser is a separate key it's not an MB factory one so you'd be best going to an alarm specialist.

If it's the MB smart key (triangular-ish black plastic one) just get a new key case on eBay (£5) and swap parts over or buy a new key (£200 of so).

Welcome to the forum by the way.

The garage and 2 othe rpeople have said i need to do more than just get a new case, they say (indpendent people) that i must replace the immobiliser 'system' , meaning the reprogramming, a new immobiliser logic board ? and new keys . And yes, it is the MB Smart keys.

If it had been a new key case, i'd have done that by now.

Get an auto alarm and imobiliser fitter to check it out .If its a factory fit it takes ages to remove .But if its aftermarket then you might be able to do it yourself . It means tracing every wire from the alarm box and some have lots of wires going to all the doors boot and bonnet .

@Mike-J-B: I've just had a new steering lock unit fitted to my W204 due to the car refusing to start last week. Symptoms were that when you put the smart key in the dashboard there is no clicking sound, none of the dash warning lights come on and it's stuck in Park - cost £700 in total. Most of that is labour and VAT - about 4.5 hours - but if you're lucky and they don't have to remove the steerring column to do the job it might only be 1.5 hours ... guess I'm not lucky :(

It needs to go on a Star machine to diagnose which part of the immobiliser system has failed as there are a number of interlinked parts any of which can cause the immobiliser to remain activated.

Welcome to the forum and hope yours is fixed soon :)
