A quick question, is it a very expensive job to replace the metal brake pipes that go from the front to rear on an R230 SL500?

Hi,

I think the quick answer is Yes because the pipes routing means a lot of dismantling.
If the reason behind the question is that you have brake pipe corrosion, you could just replace the corroded part. This is most likely near the rear wheels as that's where the road dirt, salt, etc. hits the pipes. You probably need to do both sides as they are the same age.
A good mechanic with pipe bending and flaring tools could cut out those parts and make a good, safe repair at far less cost.

£300 to replace the full lines on both sides sounds very reasonable to me.
