Hi, As anybody changed a Engine Thermostat on a W212 350 CDI? This is a job i have to do and first attempt seems a bit awkward, got it all apart bar the last bolt under the charge pipe and it is so long that you cannot get it out because of the high pressure fuel pipe is in the way! so for the time being have put it all back together again, any tricks or thoughts appreciated, cheers Dave

It's in German but it's a Mercedes after all.

did mine today, also broke the lock on the connector(brittle plastic) but it's a tight fit so I recon it will be okay! great tip about syphoning the header tank, got 2 ltrs out and not a drip from the hose or housing when removed! pleased to say on my engine the long bolt comes out without having to remove any pipes/ducts for access. Job done in less than 30 mins.

Did you have use a flexible extension or anything to get under the pipe for the turbo to reach the awkward bolt?

Have a garage do it ,if you think it's a bridge to far . The video above shows him removing the turbo air pipe . It's obviously in the way of removal of the thermostat. Just getting that pipe off is a job in itself , trust me !!!

No the charge pipe on mine was a smooth pipe without all the blanked off branches on it! socket with long extension fitted straight on bolt, next time I am under bonnet I'll take a pick and post it here.

That was the best pipe , you can't do buggar all with this new pipe , fuel filter isnt accessable anymore , pita . And mb say its to reduce turbo noise by 4% , bollox . !!!!

I have never ever been aware of turbo noise in our car... (even after it had been to Burnham-on-Crouch).

Just had mine done by my Indy, not a fun job as has been said one bolt is very long and the charge pipe get's in the way.

I put a Febi Bilstein thermostat in, was 1/3 of the price of a OEM MB one

Park on a bank - ie to have the front of the car raised slightly?
