I want to have a reversing camera installed and wondered if anyone else has done this. Are you glad you did it?

Also would I need a separate monitor or could it be wired to the screen I already have?
Lastly what should I expect a reputable mechanic to charge for this? (roughly)

I did on my 2008 C class (NG4 I think) and and yes I'm 100% happy that I did, very useful.
Best £20 I ever spent!
That's not a typo, click the link.

And yes I find it so good, I'd be happy to pay full price (but not MB dealer prices).

.
Had one in my old W168 for four years - miss it, already bought a model-specific one (incorporated into a numberplate light), plan to instal this summer, together with a new HU.

i would like to try this, I have command with the sd card slot, so I'm assuming it's all ready to go, just need the video from camera into green fakra plug.

Can anyone be so kind and list the parts required please?
My number plate lights are LED's - I think, and all the videos I've seen show the camera integrated with one of the number plate lights, which is a normal bulb.

Also, a guide on how to remove the trim above the command would be useful?

I will post some pics and a guide when I get around to doing it!

Thanks

You need to get the screen to show the image when reverse is selected.
My advice is get that bit sorted first and when you get a black screen (no video input) when reverse is selected you're ready for the next step.

Enabled RVC in command engineering mode, and the screen switches when reverse is selected. So far so good.

What next?

Connect the camera, check it's working and that the image is reversed (mirror image) then fit the camera and wiring.

My camera is always on with ignition, my thinking was it would keep the camera warm to stop any lens fogging in damp weather.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but which camera?
All the links in the previous threads are no longer.

Also, which lead is required to connect the video to fakers?

Thanks

Mine had to be an NTSC camera but Malcolm says most are PAL, if you connect the wrong type the screen will just roll and flicker.
You might even have a choice of NTSC or PAL in the engineering menu, mine didn't.

The cameras usually have an RCA (phono) connector so you need an RCA to fakra adaptor, be sure to check the gender of each connector.
170 degree cameras give a nice view.
CCD or CMOS are both ok, CMOS are cheap and I find it good enough. No need to worry about TV lines as the image is not that big but a lower number of TV lines may give a less sharp image.
Also there's no need for infra red LEDs, my camera was as cheap as they come and it's been great, still works as good as the day I got it with no issues day or night.

Do a search for reversing camera on amazon, there are CCD reversing cameras for £9

I hate eBay and would always try Amazon first.

right, I've ordered the camera, and had a peek behind the command unit.

Which green connector is used for the camera, and what cable is required?
Also, would it be best/easier routing the cable via the passenger side or drivers?

The trim removal was much easier than I anticipated, I have pictures if anyone is interested.

Thanks

right the camera arrived unexpectedly today - a couple of questions.
Firstly, will i need to re -route the camera cable from the centre bulb housing?

Also, can I wire the camera into the same feed as my dashcam, which is on a permanent live - the red cable on the LHS in the pic below?

Thanks

I can't believe they make those cameras in number plate light lenses and don't bother to illuminate it.

MOT fail.
