I've simply overlooked renewal twice and been fined both times within a month. My bit of England is thoroughly policed and I approve of it. I liked the discs much better, because if I forgot I was reminded by family and friends. I wondered if they'd eliminated the discs precisely so that people would forget and end up paying more in fines - that's how it's affected me. This forum suggests to me that only SE England still enjoys enforcement.
That's the very reason I decided to pay my 'Road Fund' by direct debit :)

Same here. I have Mrs A's car, my car, eldest junior a's car, my motorbike and the truck. All on Direct Debit and I get a nice email each month with the reg number confirming it's been paid for.

I pay it by DD too but I used to put an "event" with email reminder on google calendar - otherwise I'd have probably been in the same boat. I remembered on the very last day two years ago...
