I did something very stupid a few days ago - noticed what I thought was a tiny bit of dirt, on the top of the back of the steering wheel - the plastic textured thingy, not leather.

So I rubbed it, not aggressively I might add, and without any solvents - just a baby wipe, and to my horror realised it was a tiny bald patch, and now it has grown:

    :(

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

I now wish Jack re-trimmed my own steering wheel, not a donor one he sourced, as mine was perfect ...

It's been over a year, I don't want him to think I'm trying to blame him ... was entirely my own stupidity.

Come to think of it, is it possible to re-trim the back, and the airbag while we at it, in genuine leather?

Might it not be worth spraying it to begin David? It’s not in a (very) conspicuous area and unless my eyes deceive the grain is still intact?

    Thanks John, that's great!

Yes, it certainly not "in your face" kind of spot - this spray might be just what I need (particularly as I can't afford re-trim at the moment anyway). The grain is intact, well - most of it.

Somewhat concerned about spraying anything inside the car, so might have to consider taking the wheel off ... or ask them if they do touch-up kits.

I’d Mask up the area with polythene sheet and tape David and have a go intact, it’s a relatively small area and cannot see this having much ‘overspray’. Or if you’re worried by that approach and it’s not available as a touch up, spray it into a plastic container and use a small brush...

If it's like the Smart the wheel is really easy to remove.

Well, I've seen Jack doing it, and assisted in holding it straight during the process.
I also since had the airbag removed, by myself, a couple of times - fitting carbon trims, etc.
And, I have the appropriate WIS page printed ...

What could possibly go wrong o_O

PS I'm checking dab-on touch up kits ha ha

Ah, excellent! I'll try the latter approach first ;)

Must admit I don’t blame you, given all the work you’ve put into the interior carbon finish!

I am a bit surprised that the plastic is not self coloured rather than coated to be honest. Perhaps I am living in the past

Once I'm done with my steering wheel, you're welcome to try the spray ... you might not even need the primer ;)

Do you remember the original colour? Would black be okay? :p

There you go, I think we’re onto a new business opportunity here:-
    Permed dashboards
    Crew cut seat bolsters
Feather cut headrests (showing my age now)

Before I replaced my steering wheel (the outer leather skin started peeling off) I tried one of the many kits you can find quite cheap on the Bay. They include little high-density sponge pieces and black die. I've used the "inky" lacquer to cover a couple of spots on the seat squab and can't see them any more.

It's very annoying when you find something out the hard way - so good luck with a fix!
