Hi All,

How do I tell if my car has them fitted? I've tried looking at the tyres on my car (Bridgestone RE05As) for some distinguishing marks such as RFT, RSC, SSC etc but I cannot see any.

The info/display under service indicates that run flat sensors are active or running or whatever the term is. So does that just mean the circuit has been activated by the previous owner but that the car doesn't actually have them fitted?

Told you it was a daft question :)

I think it will be tyre pressure monitors NOT runflat as in the tyres are run flat. they are to warn you of a soft tyre (possibly through the ABS sensors or through actual tyre pressures, theres 2 methods to do it)

This is where I'm even more confused as you apparently can get run flat versions of that tyre according to black circles anyway

Run Flat tyres?
You will be able to check whether your current tyres are Run Flat tyres by checking the sidewall.

Unfortunately there is no industry standard code to represent this and different manufacturers use different symbols or letters. These are as follows:

Continental – SSR
Dunlop – DSST or ROF
Goodyear – ROF or EMT
Bridgestone - ROF or RFT or RSC
Michelin – ZP
Hankook – tyres will be marked with HRS or have B at the end of the product number (e.g. K115B)
Pirelli – RSC
Yokohama – ZPS

That's precisely the same passage of text I used to check the sidewalls but I didn't see any of the Bridgestone RF markings

I have run flats on one of mine, it does'nt have "run flat sensors" either running or active, it has a tyre pressure monitoring system like many other MB's without run flats.

I thought the were suffixed ROF though?
Anyway IMO if there are no suffixes that would mean they’re not run flats?

Just been out in the car and the option states "Run flat indicator active" under the service menu.

I still think it would have to say or have a code somewhere , so the tyre repair monkey would know what action to take in the event of a puncture .

I think you're right guys. I will take another close look when the rain stops just to be sure but I'm guessing the code should be fairly prominent.

Either way it's not a big deal. Just had a replacement key made by Mark of RMK and their service is just as good as previously experienced. First time I took the car on a decent run today and it's such a comfortable motorway cruiser with lots of power on hand if needed :)

Full MB history, covered 82k, artico interior, heated front seats, DAB, Bi-Xenons.

Can't upload pics from my phone according to the error message as they're too large. Will try from the laptop later.

I'm using the mobile browser so can't see your signature: what trim etc is yours?

Yes I was thinking the same re: ATF too. From what I've read it's not a diy job on the 722.9 as it was on the 722.6 but no great shakes. I'll check the book again to see if it's had a diff oil change or not but more than likely it hasn't.

Avantgarde , leather on my E320cdi . Yep it's not really a DIY job , but it could be done if you shell out for one of the vertical fluid pump thingys , but by the time you have bourght that you may as well pay an Indy the £200 .
There is no service schedule for diff oil replacement , but that is a cheap and relatively easy DIY job , I think I've done both my cars diffs twice now (but I've got issues :D )
Keep on eye on the orange turbo inlet seal for drips on the om642 . If you search "salmon tin" on this forum , you will see some pics of a thing I made to stop drips/let you know when the seal drips.
The om642 really likes clean air filters as well , which is an easy enough job when you combine it with the turbo inlet seal change .
