Is the SLS filter the one in the top of the Hyd Fluid reservoir ? lift out and replace ?? or is there a finer filter somewhere else?
BTW behind rear bumpers on mine exactly the same

2005 CL500.
One of the reasons why my donor car was for breaking.
Sorry, couldn't resist :D.

They are non structural so you need the nearside one to hold the spare wheel , but the off side one could be a flat plate level with the floor of the boot.

Yes that's the only one.
It's held to the cap by the age-old 'sprung hook' arrangement, so it needs pushing up and twisting before it pulls off.

Springs

I didn't say much about springs in my to do list, so I will add here to keep it all together, although I've covered some in other posts.

Front:
The car sits too low for an AG spec: both sides are 33 cm from axle to arch, which is 2 to 3 mm less.
An old MOT shows it failed on a broken front spring. Possibly they've been replaced with incorrect / poor quality new ones, worn s/h ones...or maybe someone chopped the unbroken one to match, as they usually fail at the bottom about 2inches from the end.
OE AG spec. springs have four paint dots - 3 white, 1 yellow. I have the right spring comp, so they'll be coming off anyway.

Rear:
Here we have a mis-match in ride height of 2.5 mm. No broken spring ends were evident.
Maybe a ram fault, as they work together. Maybe I need to run the car more to charge up the SLS.

There is a rear end 'clonk' too, 'usual suspects' here - bottom ram ball joint, front body mounts etc. Some never find the source, it seems.

Ideally, I'd drop the sub frame and do the lot, plus hidden brake and SLS pipes include but that's probably not going to happen.:(

Springs sag over time, they will never maintain the original ride height

im amazed you can even TELL the height is down (without measuring it) if its only 2-3 MM! it would drop more than that filling the fuel tank etc!

Look for rust on everything made of metal and you won't go far wrong.

Some pictures and not before time.
The donor looks sad at its impending fate.

But will yield some drive space back for the others.

A brief update:
Now MOT'd and on the road.
New front discs bought as a Talisman that would encourage the 'warped' set to be nearly new but on unclean hub faces...
Plenty to do. The ridiculous front springs need to go asap.
Full ATF and pilot bush change after that, plus the brakes feel full of air.

They were the wrong ones, were mis-matched and one was broken, so were too low and too bouncy (there's another 210 springs thread of mine covering this).

Swapped them for the correct AG springs which are much better, spring rate-wise, but still a bit too low for the many speed humps we encounter locally.

The 4 'pip' spacers over the std. AG 2 pip would add another 10 mm ride height.
Which retrospectively, I would now do.

Another update for you all.

Brakes were indeed full of air. With new fluid and a bleed they are magnificent, as designed.

However, I have been a total knob.
I was "sure" that I had read somewhere on the exacting internet that an iCarsoft i980 was the ideal tool for the intrepid 210 DIYer, so I bought one, having a 38 pin converter/OBD lead.

It's a lovely tool. Maybach owners are covered... but not 'us'. Only diesels 2004 onwards.
