Just purchased a mercedes 2009 w221 S320 CDI, purchased it with a gearbox issue, they said it needs a new TCU so I read about the procedure and it seemed easy enough...Sooo I got the car drove it 200miles and got home with no problems, turned it off and now it wont start again ??? The starter just clicks and does not turn over. It has started a couple of times out of 50 tries or so but not usable which I wasnt told about....My question is will this be part of the problem with the gearbox and if I install and new plug and conductor plate will this solve my problem?

Oh and he sent me a picture of the diagnostic msg which I'm attaching to this msg
Also I have just changed the starter motor which did not fix my problem :-(

I would plug in Star to make sure 100% about the fault. If conductor plate will be totally damaged then I think it will not start as it is connected to Immo and does lock the gearbox. If I am wrong please correct me :-D

Well I'm pretty sure this is what needs replacing in the gearbox, when I did drive it home from buying it, It julted into gear, and took ages to get going properly after you stopped ! as if the clutch was slipping

You have to plugged in Star ;-) it is hard to say anything else without a proper diagnostic specially it is W221 which has a ton of electronics on board and without a proper diagnostic on Star I would not trust any other scanner on this car. Sorry.

Is the battery charged......
Does the dash display show what gear the car is in when you try to crank?

Can you hear the selector module move when you change the gear?

You need to plug it into STAR and check if you have start authorisation.

What voltage do you have when cranking? Either the battery is faulty, or the gearbox is still engaged.

Yes I can hear the gearbox changing when I go to drive or reverse and the dash registers them as well :) going to double check voltage now

The c4 WiFi mux is better than the c5 clones aren't the same as genuine c5 muxs as those actually run the software rather than the laptop.

The Chinese clones of the c5 are just c4 internals in a different case.

So if I purchased a c4 it would have run the exact same software and been able to do exactly the same as this c5 ?

Yes

However, if you have paid c4 clone money for a c5 clone money then it's no issue!

Well I've just been looking and the price is about the same to be honest, just over £600 with the I7 tablet

This C5 also supports UDS diagnose protocol which the C4 doesn't does it ??

If you take it apart you will see.

A real c5 mux is a self contained computer. It contains a w7 embedded os and local memory and storage and runs all the commands locally.

The xentry software then just talks to it as a network device.

The c4 mux is just a multiplexer and contains a WiFi card and some relays/control circuitry. All the software runs on the laptop with c4 and the mux just does communication.

Either way, yours will work fine for the 221 and the price you paid is the same as for a c4 so I wouldn't worry.
