scanner/diagnostic systems mercedes ml 270 cdi auto 2002

Hi
I have noticed that the STAR scanning is mostly used on the Mercedes, however is there other systems which are equally just as good to use especially by DIY users like myself....and is it easy to use and understand or do you have to be a brain surgeon also.

Icarsoft are good for the simpler DIY stuff, of course not a piece of professional kit like Star

The i980 is no good for a 2002 diesel OM 612/613.
