So everyone, I have read a lot of your advise and comments and read a lot of usual online reviews, etc, so have finally bit the bullet and have booked the C200 CDI in for a Service with WDM Cars in Perry Barr, Birmingham.

I am have a B Service done, without the fuel filter as its not due yet, and also the Gearbox Service.

One question, Wayne at the garage said that colour of the cap will still be black on the ATF, as thats apparently only dealers who change it to red. But my history and invoice will be fully documented to say what work has been carried out. Is that about right?

Thanks folks.

If he has some black tabs rather than red ones to put back on the cap I wouldn't worry , you will still have the documentation to show the ATF and filter has been changed . If it bothers you , you could replace the red tab yourself for less than two quid .

Aye, you can buy the tabs off eBay.

The black tab is a factory tab which is put there on purpose. The red tabs indicate the gearbox oil has been changed. Its a way of knowing whether the gearbox has ever had filter and fluid change or not.

All tabs supplied by MB dealers are red and should not be black.

So, I have dropped the car off this morning about the Service.

Im not too fussed about the colour of the cap having read everything here, as long as its documented and its done, im happy.

All in all, I have asked them to do the following now:
- B Service, air, oil, etc. (excl. Fuel Filter)
- ATF Service
- Brake Fluid change (seemed a no brainer for another £30 whilst it was there.

Right folks, car is back from the service.

Generally, I pressume its all done and sorted, as I cannot see inside anywhere.

Couple of things im not entriely happy with:
1) Car wasnt washed and vac'd. The amount I paid I would have liked a bucket over it, but when asked Wayne advised that "at his prices, no chance".
2) I will have to buy my own red 722.6 locking tab, as there isnt one on there at all now.

Am I asking for too much with the above or are we OK?

A lot of folks on here won't let garages wash their cars, so don't expect any sympathy there.
A new tab is only a couple of quid off ebay.
I'm sure you got a good price compared to the main dealers.

I think if you were told it would have been washed and it wasn't you would have a point . Indys keep their prices down by generally not having fancy shows rooms and doing quality work without unnecessary extras ...but I would have expected a locking tab for the dipstick .

Stupid as it sounds, I bought that tab things and put it on. I like things to be complete.

The washing is discretion at an Indy.

The locking tab on the ATF however should have been replaced with a red one and as said above the price is so small that I cannot understand why it wasn't put on?

It's little things like this that would put me off a garage, Indy or otherwise. It shows lack of care imo

Agree with Bob. It's the little things that give a true indication of a garage. I wouldn't go back there personally.

It's like the MOT places that ALWAYS charge a quid for a "bulb failure". It's not the cost, it's the principle.

I wouldn't expect an indie to wash my car...I can do that myself.

I wouldn't want an MB garage to wash my car...I can do that better myself.

I've had both at both ..... but wouldn't expect it to be washed, but talking to a service bod at MB, some people do expect their car to be washed & hoovered out
