I have brought shame on the forum by failing an MOT. Taking advantage of a local holiday I took my car in for an MOT, a formality normally. It failied.

It failed on quite a lot of things: holes in the exhast; emission (probably due to the exhast); headlamp pointing to low; rear disks; and a broken front spring!

Fans of my rambling threads may remember this one...

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=13866

That was less than a year ago. There are still bits of label on the spring!

I'm guessing I can get this replaced for nothing by the dealers...once I find the original invoice.

Now I have to work out how to get the rear section of the exhast of.

i have to admit its not a good day for the mods round here.

the slinkymobile departs for its new owner 2moro at 12. He nearly didnt have a car to have either. I got quite sideways on the way into work today.

Continetal tyres are not very good in the wet. and I dont quite think I got the full 400bhp into them whilst it was coming round on me either.

Am off away till the 7th Oct, as I will be mercedes less till then. and even after then it will be a sort of mercedes like experince.

sorry to hear that turnip.

Don't want to rub it in or anything, but we sailed through the MOT on Friday. :D
Only one advisory note about the top suspension mounting bush. (how much a top suspension mounting bush, anyone? anyone got a part number?)

The annoying thing is that it's a lot of work to replace a spring if you go the diy route.

The car has only done about 4k since the springs were changed. I replaced both springs at the time even though only was broken, just a little bit at the bottom.

The failure this time is far more dramatic, breaking two or three inches from the top.

Still struggling to get the exhast off. I've undone the clamps and taken off all the rubber supports on the rear section, yet it sits there laughing at me.

Maybe I should have gone to one of these new places that do exhasts and tyres while you wait.

Coca Cola is a very good penetrating oil too. However you have to let it work in for a day or so, not exactly instant

I'm glad I read your post this morning as it suddenly reminded me that our MOT was due, in fact when I dug out the paperwork it's about 9 days overdue

The exhast is off. The angle grinder will shift anything.

The confussing thing is that the middle section and the tail section are one complete part on my car.

Europarts have them listed as two separate bits.

blimey, that lasted well, 180k. The next exhast may outlive me. I'll leave it to you in my will.
