Simplon Pass

I am driving to Italy via France and Switzerland on 10th May and one of my overnight stops is Chateau D'Oex near Gruyeres. The following day I intend to drive to Stresa via the Sion valley and the Simplon Pass.
My question is - will the pass be open and is it likely that any other roads on that route will be closed?
I am aware that replies can only be historic for this time of the year. I will be avoiding any toll roads.

I've found that once the ski season stops the passes aren't cleared again until the snow melts. We couldn't get from France into Italy in late May because of snow at 8,250' on the La Rosière pass just north of Val d'Isère

Once open they tend to stay open and are rarely ever closed until next season, so if it opens sometime between then and your journey, bar some massive snow storm you should be OK.

Not sure of the Simplon pass but the French alpine passes tend to open late April.

It does appear that you will not be driving a Merc according to your vehicle description . I hope that this doesn't affect your experience . Just thought I should mention it . Have a great trip buddy .

I still miss the SLK, but having to lug a mobility scooter around couldn't put the roof down with the scooter in the boot.
