Just discovered a wet patch in the carpet behind the
passenger seat in my 2006 SL350. I assume it must be
coming from the roof/window. I thought roof leakage
was sorted in the facelift cars?
I will have to sit in and watch for leaking next time it rains.
Known problem?

Do apply Gummi pledge or Krytox silicon lubricant to all the roof seals and it will close tighter and be much quieter, if it leaks after that please post back

Smart + others :)
I would check the heater and under bonnet drains as the water would run from the front to back in the chanels under the carpet.

Yes indeed and more likely, remove the near side rear section of the near side front wheel liner, cut the spout off the heater box drain and make sure the pipe is clean

I should have said about that :(

Ok thanks for that. It rained again this morning and I observed a drip from
the nearside exposed roof mechanism which ran down the c pillar trim onto
the carpet. I guess that is my problem then, Gummi Pfege on order.

Also checked under bonnet side drains with length of cable, seems free not
sure how to check heater drain just yet.

How best to lubricate the various joints of the roof mechanism? Will an oil can
do the job or are the joints sealed? Maybe spray silicon or ptfe would be less messy?
Thanks again for replies

Ok looks like Gummi Pflege has worked it's magic, no more
leaks!
Only light rain so far but fingers crossed for heavy rain forecast for tomorrow.

PTFE will not mark anything if you do the hinges and joints.

Could the water be coming from the top of the doors

Argh! Leaky SL again.

I've done the Malcolm rear window lower seal fix, done the seals at the corner (clean out and piece of hose inside etc) and also had the front blower box drain fix done. Boot is dry.

BUT

the carpet in the corner behind the drivers seat is wet, as is under the seat and the footwell. No obvious tracks down the windows etc and the carpet behind the pedals is dry.

The car is parked nose-downhill so I suspect a leak at the back running forward.

Is this the plastic overs on the C pillars? If so, how do I remove them (thought I'd saved the pics of this) and what am I looking to reseal/fix?

Any other places to look?

Thanks.

Have you cut the spout off the heater box drain yet

Yes, (if this is the raised lip in the box) local Indy did this when carpet flooded and the roof electrics went kaput - no water visible in the heater box.

I'd been into the wheel arch too, and there were no grills in place in the exit spouts in there.

Thanks Malcolm.

Was up early today redoing the C pillar sealant - good clean out, hairdyer to dry the water off and warm things up, and then on with the sealant.

Whats the best way to get that fix?

Well, left it out, nose facing uphill in todays rain, and wet behind the drivers seat (the only place it is wet inside) and some damp right up in the ledge on the RHS of the boot, right under the roof mechanism. None on the LHS.

Can't feel any damp under the rear window - where it used to come in and then track along so I'm baffled as to the leak path.

I've done the rear window and the C pillar seals.

Any ideas where to check next? (assuming I did the above properly!)

It has to be the side seal over the window or the last roof joint

Had a good feel about the rear ledge and so on but couldn't find a trail.

I'll lie some kitchen roll about to see if that reveals the leak source then.

I am sure there is no way in from the boot area, neither from the drivers side front that could run back.

Damp patches were; right up in the RHS of the boot, on that ledge where the roof mechanism is, and on a piece of kitchen roll I suspended from the back of the outboard edge of the drivers seat to the ledge below the rear window. The damp on the latter was right in the middle so a roof joint leak?

The boot leak - couldn't find damp with my hand under the edge of the rear window so can't work out where that one is coming from.

Carpet in front of seat is dry.

I'll PM you for the roof joint fix Malcolm.
