After cleaning what i could of green corrosion on the plugs, I have today carried out the voltage test after Malcolm's updated DIY.

I removed the b,bk wire from the CAN. With the door open and radio on, (to make the system active), whilst one CAN was good at 4.65v, I still got a high reading of 0.65v on the CAN that should be 0.025v. (It was 0.5v when the car should be sleeping too) I then replaced the b,bk wire, removed each plug and tested each time. Still got the high reading.

I also took out each plug and tested the voltage on each individual wire and this also showed the same high voltage on each of them!

Any idea what's going on ?

That is all correct and perfect, the main thing is they should go back to the 11 volts and 0.025volt when all turned off,, if they do its all perfect.

Yes I get that Malcolm thanks, but as I say, CAN H is not ever going to 0.025v, it's never below 0.5v or neither are any of the plugs individually.

If CAN H never gets back to 0.025 then there is one thing still awake or running, the key should be out of the car when testing and its a matter of unplugging to see what is live and the first place to start is the X30/15.

Something is leaking there.

Yes, I get that too, but as I say, each of the plugs are live and showing this reading of 0.5v when unplugged regardless of any connection to the CAN. surely they can't all be leaking or am I not understanding what you mean?

Find the plug that comes from the EIS switch, this is the master and see what is on that lead

Sorry Malcolm, I should have said, this wire behaves the same and is also 0.5v, plugged in or not
How can this common voltage be on all plugs if they are not linked?

The only way to measure them is really on the rear of the can connectors with most plugged in, I have never checked the actual plugs, but we could have a no load situation where the voltage is high when the circuit is not loaded, 0.5 volt is quite high, it only goes to 0.65 when active. do a check on the X30/18

Ok, will check that one too but why would separate circuits on the CAN all have the same 0.025v reading?

As another thought, shall I remove the front fuses one by one and check the readings to see if it isolates or is that not going to help me with the circuitry that leads to the CAN?

That is the running voltage on CAN H 0.025 dormant and 0.65 active, is there any change in this voltage when dormant or active.

It might help by taking out each body fuse

I'll take out the fuses and test then.

The dormant reading is 0.5v and active goes up a bit to 0.65, that's the issue I've been raising on all my recent posts like the one above.....

That can sure account for your drain on the battery,,, just a matter of finding it.

Just doing my usual trawl through all the usual R230 issues on the forum and I noticed this post from Malcolm has the diagrams missing. Given the usefulness of this thread to the R230 community I wondered of anyone else had the images to link this to?

This is the heater box and 430 is the drain for this box

I have this problem on my SL500 had the water under the passenger seat and cleaned the drain out which was blocked then I also pulled the carpet up to dry out. My problem now is that I have no sound on the CD player and was wondering if this water under there also causes no power to the AMP and other equipment in the rear of the car. I have been through the finer optics and I can get the red light to the amp but if I bypass that I can't get the red light at the next so I assume there is no power to the three things in the back being AMP, telephone and something else. Would the wet under the passenger seat cause this?
