Have you tried pulling the handle and ficking the latch open with a screwdriver or something with a point!

Sounds like the metalwork for the catchplate is bent. I've seen it happen a couple of times.

Look carefully at where the rear of the door, where the lock catches onto the D-plate and inspect for damage, check the other side to give an idea what it should be like. A hammer and piece of wood will be required to knock it back into shape

My sliding door on p reg v class was closing and bouncing off the plate finally breaking one of the catches..It turned out to be the two upper bolts on the sliding door closest to the cab. they had loosened & required re-locating and tightening..hope its this simple for you .good luck

WD40 to the rescue

I had the same issue where the door seemed to bounce off something. I sprayed some WD40 into the catch at the back of the door which has solved the problem.

I have a Vito (57 Reg)
On of the sliding door doesn't seem to shut, it bounces back
It seems the door latch doesn't seem to catch/latch
Can someone please tell me how best to fix this.. Without spending a lot of money
