looking for some advice here
I have been offered a nice SLK from a friend of mine, on showing me how the roof worked it stuck in the open position.
When the roof opens it locks into position by a mechanical catchs on both sides. One of these catches does not release, if the 'emergency' cord is pulled in the boot, the catch releases and everything is fine , but on repeated operations tha catch still sticks.
Before i take it in has anyone experienced this and if so what was the prognosis

thanks

Not sure and it could be a simple repair - but
SLKs are lovely - until the roof goes. Officially, MB list a roof repair as a 30 hour job (£3,000+). It probably wouldn't come to that, but there aren't that many non franchised people who'd fix them if it did and even then a roof rebuild is £1,500+. I'd suggest agreeing to buy the car on the proviso that your friend gets it fixed. I woudln't buy an SLK with a dicky roof. Just too risky.
