The bodywork generally is good on my1980 C107 but there is a rust patch where water has run down the rear screen seal.I`ve rubbed it down and treated it with rust preventor and then u/coated it I am finding it very difficult after spraying, to get the small area to match. The paint appears to be a very good match on the rear 1/4 panel which I have replaced. Am I trying to cover too small an area? Len

Any pics of the painted result?

What are you using to prime?

Looking at your photos I'd be tempted to remove the glass from that and do it properly as, on the picture without the treatment applied, there are what appear to be holes where there should be metal.

Probably not what you wanted to hear but once the glass is removed you'll be able to cut or grind all the rot out and get a small piece of steel welded in.

As for matching the paint, you'll probably have to blend it across the area under the screen a lot further than the repair itself.

I agree with the above, that rust looks to have gone a lot further that you can get to with the glass still in place.

I agree, you should really get the glass removed. It shouldn't be too much extra work, and you may find other bits of corrosion that can be dealt with then.

I read somewhere that the rear screen should be re-assembled before fitting in the car. Is it the old way of using string to pull the seal in.Len
