Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem with my W212 E-Class, this happens more in the cold but still happens from time to time even when its warm.
If I go to start the engine, nothing happens and the computer tells me that the ESP is inopoerative and that the run flat indicator is inactive, I have to turn off the ignition and back on again about 10 - 15 times then eventurly, it spins over and starts, even worse though, when it does start, if I immediatly put the car into reverse or drive, the car will cut out, so once it starts, I need to wait about 10 seconds or give a few revs to get going.
Once ive started moving, everything is perfect, its just starting it thats the problem.
Ive read countless threads about possible solutions to this, but nothing has worked so far.
I have already replaced the battery, made sure all the tyre pressures are up to spec and all are level, changed one of the fuses which my mechanic thought might be the issue (hes independant, not offical mercedes).
At this point, taking my car to a proper garage is my only option I think, so Im hoping some other people here have a solution before I do that.

Thank you to anybody who can help.

OK you might find this strange/others will confirm if I'm on the right track.
Did your independant guy check the brake light switch? A fault there can cause what you are describing sometimes. Surprised your guy hasn't checked that if not....

Thank you for the response.

He might not be completely up to date with all the electrics on mercedes cars as he does all sorts of cars, so I should go to a proper place or something.

I will ask him about that though.

He did plug his tool into my car though and it came up with this:

He did say though that its possible that if one sensor goes, the whole system can go, so a faulty brake light switch you suggested could be the problem.

Dave I'd speak with Alex Crow who's not far from you 01449 258185, they are known and respected on here as a forum supporter. They will know of this issue and also have the Star system specific to diagnose MB problems. Good luck

Hi, I have the same problem on a GLK 280 2008. I don't know if I have to change, EZS(EIS), ME9.7, front SAM or ESL. Could you advice ?

OP disappeared into oblivion.
Terminal 15, Circuit 15 is EIS related.

I have a thread on this where I had identical issues on a w221. Mines been off the road since Nov 2023 and only just got it back after repeated downtime at the local MB Indy.

I tried a new EIS and starter relay to no avail. It was elusive to diagnostics and finally after much time they got it to fault and diagnosed a no start signal from the ecu. Since it’s had a replacement ecu it’s been good.

Wonderful sh!te modern engineering! My 25-30yr old cars on original electrics etc are bang on. Modern stuff can’t make it around block without fvcking up.
