Hi, is it wise to spacers with wheels?
Spacers are fine provided they are good quality like H&R, make sure they are Hubcentric so they fit correctly on the hub and the wheel will sit correctly on them.
There are 2 types
DR - bolt through
DRA - Bolt on
If you are going 20mm (per side) or over then DRA is the way to go, this also saves you buying new wheel bolts.
When buying bolt through you will obviously need longer bolts and you measure these only on the Thread length so measure yours and add the Spacer thickness
I ran spaced wheels on my CLS with no issues , i fitted them to achieve the correct offset with the aftermarket rims.
Is it to alter the look of the car or to fit different wheels ?
If it is the latter then check the profile of the mating face of the wheel bolts as MB have a curved profile and some aftermarket wheels have a tapered profile so new wheel bolts may be required.
Curved are called "Radius Head" bolts
And there are two sizes (technically 3).
M12 with 12mm radius.
M14 with 14mm radius.
M12 with 14mm radius (specialist aftermarket).
It's important the radius matches the wheel.
You cannot fit 12mm radius wheels to a car that use M14 bolts.
Also if this is for appearance be aware there will be increased power on wheelbearings and suspension joints and if fitted to the front will change the scrub radius which can impact behaviour under braking and on bumps.
CL203 will take a 12x1.5 17mm HEX Radius head bolt
Many thanks for your replies.
If you want H&R I have the full part list, ECP are the importers now
Yes please J Bell.
I did have a spare set of Eibach spacers somewhere ??
How thick do you need?
I done't know yet,
Have to get some tyres on the rims and take it to my local indy, and he will tell me what i need.
Work it out and give me the sizes and I will send you the part numbers over
The et will be printed on the wheels. Have a look we can do the rest.
The wheels I am putting on the car are: front ET32 and rear ET35.
Once tyres are fitted will go down to my local indy and he will advise on what thickness of spacers I need, will contact again once I know.
And what width are the wheels?
Wheels are 8.5 and 9.5.
Wide for a CL203!!!! Normally they are 7.5 and 8
Separate names with a comma.
