Mercedes only sell the drain plug with the washer...
Last time I did a fluid change I reused the old steel (think it's steel, defo not copper) washer and got away with it but don't fancy trying my luck again.
Has anyone sourced a supply of these? Seems ridiculous to have to buy the drain plug just to get the washer, risky from the point of view of leaks to reuse and riskier still to put a copper washer in there which will weigh a different amount.
Any suggestions much appreciated :)

Can't remember what they were.
I'd doubt it would be steel. Try a magnet.
If it is Al, it will dissolve in NaOH.
If it is copper, re-anneal on the gas hob to make it soft again.

Stick to the solid washers rather than the folded crush washers. Then as OM613 said, you can anneal them on the stove. But to be honest mate, i've used the same copper washer on my landrover transmission for a good 15 years, but that's what landrovers are all about, reuse rather than replace.

cheers people.
I thought I'd get organised and buy myself an assortment of copper washers off amazon. As it turns out, none of them are the same dimensions as the TC/ trans drain plug. One of them fits in terms of the I.D but the O.D is too big.
Will measure the old one and just order 20 of them as I have a feeling I will be pi***** about with 722.6s a bit this spring/ summer.

Copper is the norm but the magnetic drain plug i purchased had an aluminium one fitted .Just changed the oil ,and a cleaned it up and its back in to the sump . And i must say i have never seen steel washers used as yet .Locking a steel washer on to the alu sump casting would do it no favours

Technically there are steel washers, there called dowty seals. There steel washers with a bonded rubber inner, we use them on hydraulics. So you tighten down onto the steel and the rubber provides the seal. Good for 300 bar and 140 C.
