I am having a problem with clutch stays in and difficult to change the gear particularly high to low. This is happening not regularly but up the hill or down the hill. Also on motorway run when you are from national speed to go down sort of under 40 or 30mph. can some one guide me. I just talk to local mechanic but he says without looking its clutch and flyer wheel gone.

Either the clutch isn't disengaging (adjustment if a cable clutch or if hydraulic lack of fluid/worn slave or master cylinder) or the clutch is sticking on its itlines (oil contamination/dirt).
If it's the former it should be easy enough to sort. If the latter it needs removing and replacing.

Hi thank you for your kind answer. The problem is not permanent its only some time happened. I took it to the local mechanic but he said carry on driving until it stop and we need to changed clutch and flyer wheel. But as you mentioned if it is repairable or remove oil or dirt contamination would be cheaper option. I think I should concern another mechanic. What would you do.?

A cable problem is unlikely to be intermittent, but either of the other faults mentioned above could be. How you deal with it really depends on how much you need the car to be reliable as a failed clutch could leave you stranded. The only question I would have about your mechanic is whether he is MB trained and experienced, but from what you say, it seems to me that he knows what he is talking about.

Thank you for your comment. About the Mechanic he is very experienced guy but not MB mechanic. Even if I have to change clutch & flyer wheel how much roughly cost I am looking for?

If the gearbox has to come off I'd change the clutch/flywheel anyway. Labour is by far the biggest cost

Hi all adding to my current problem in my C class Mercedes, I noticed that the clutch get stuck in while trying to slow down after running at 70mph and also after 50+ miles drive. In small distance its not happening. Also adding to it if I try pressing couple of times pushing clutch in while slowing down its getting little friendly. Which allow me to change gear bit easily. Can some one put bit light on to it?

Oh thank you. Now I understood. The thing is how can I explained to mechanic? They are just willing to change clutch & flyer wheel. Asking me to drive until it stop. I try to stop big expenses if it get done by small price.

Might be helpful if we knew what the car was?

It appears your system is hydraulic in which case check fluid levels and if still no joy you'll need to go the garage. If you're unsure of the first garage get a second quote from somewhere else (maybe use the MB specialist finder on here).

Is there any genuine MB mechanic some one can refer to me near me? I am in RH11 8BA post code. I am trying to fix this problem ASAP. Every time I drive my car I don't feel safe on the road. Please guide me.

Don't know anyone there personally but there's a Mercedes specialist finder linked to this site.
