Hi All!

My S65 AMG is being shown as subject to the T charge, despite information I can find saying that its Euro 4 compliant.

It is not listed on the V5. Can anyone find any MB literature that says the 2008 S65 AMG is Euro 4? I do not fancy paying an additional £10 when I am forced to drive into London.

Just because it isn’t in the V5 doesn’t mean that it doesn’t meet a certain Euro emissions standard.

CO- 1.0g/km
HC- 0.10g/km
NOX- 0.08g/km
HC + NOX- n/a
Particulates- no limit.

CO- 1.0g/km
HC- 0.10g/km
NOX- 0.06g/km
HC + NOX- n/a

The stupid website says that my car is subject to the charge, even though I am 99% sure the car is Euro 4 compliant, and petrol cars that are euro 4 compliant should not be subject to the T-Charge.....

It just lists the emissions:

co 0.64g/km
hc 0.078g/km
nox 0.024g/km

Then the car is Euro 5 compliant... the trouble will be getting TFL and VOSA to admit it.

I think the tfl website did mention that some cars were "early adopters" but an application to not be charged has to be made and you have to pay until it is reviewed by tfl .

That is correct. I have to provide a signed letter from Mercedes Benz stating the emissions output and that it is Euro 4 compliant. I also have to provide copies of the v5 and also 4 pictures of each side of the vehicle. Stupidity.

as far as I'm aware from what little ive read (it doesn't affect me so I haven't read huge amounts) its anything registered before 2006

what I find dreadful though is that private hire vehicles and taxis are exempt from the charge and given that last time I was in London, taxis were EVERYWHERE, running all day (and some taxis were well into their teens of years old THEN) then surely as theyre likely to be bigger polluters (on the whole) then surely its THOSE vehicles that should be encouraged MOST to be replaced with cleaner alternatives, otherwise it just makes a mockery of the idea!

The absurdity of this new charge is that another owner on this forum with a 2002 E55 has checked and has to pay the TFL charge whereas my 2004 model E55 doesn't.
WTF, its been made up as they go along. Another shocking rip off that will cause some small business owners to go under.

Its lunacy!

I am more concerened with the ULEZ zone which will start charging motorbikes under 2007 to enter at £12.50 a day.

All this to reduce pm2.5 emissions which are caused by BRAKE WEAR and TYRE WEAR PARTICULATES, both are WHOLLY unaffected by the euro emissions standards.

If I lived within or close to the zone I'd share your concerns Alex.It's another crazy money making scheme as far as I can see.
My car is parked at Richmond or Kew tube station if I have to get into the capital anytime.

Fed my reg into the system and it says my CL500 is exempt

.....and the area of highest pollution is around Oxford St.....which is restricted to busses and black cabs for much of the day.

Busses n black cabs are exempt, so it's not going to change much

The system appears less complex than TFL would have you believe!

ANPR's identify number plates issued between 1977 and 2006. They can't link to DVLA or VCA databases ... the V5C doesn't contain a Euro level anyway.

Try the TFL compliance checker if you have a non-compliant car with a "123 ABC or ABC 123" (pre-1964) number plate.
