On my S211 can anyone please advise how to remove the chrome trim around the release handle and number plate lights. I have removed the two torx screws as shown in the photo but it is still firmly in place. Are there some clips as well. I don't want to force it and break something.

I'm trying to replace the number plate lights with LED units but it looks like I have to replace the whole unit rather than just the bulbs. See picks of old and new below.

Assume that I'm not the first to do this - please excuse my inability.

There are screws on the inside as well. Then gently prise it off. Pulls down. Be careful not to scratch paint though.

If there are screws on the inside it sounds like I have to remove all of the tailgate trim on the inside to get to them. Sounds like a job too much just for some brighter number plate lights. I thought this would be a simple bulb replacement so I think they will be going back to ebay unless there is an easier way.

This is the item that I ordered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-LED-Li...phLZr7swMpL0rdcou5DnM%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

It specifically says "easy installation" and is allegedly compatible with my car but I do note that the unit has a step in the casing that mine doesn't have so I might spend a lot of time removing (breaking) clips only to find that they don't fit.

The cover is easy enough to remove. The would seem common practice for Mercedes and these lights, many thing need to be removed to get them out.

Yes all of these things needed to be removed using these tools - not sure I'd call that easy installation.

This is a S211 tailgate with trim removed.

And this is the final effect - certainly a cleaner light than standard - hope they last.

Has anyone got the instructions on removing the inner cover on the tailgate? (Sorry for reviving an old thread)
