LOL you are the techno king/head of detail thought you would go first

There seems to be a number of ways of releasing old one and fitting new,the underneath is a sealed area so the guy on you tube saying use fish wire to get it off may not be far off the mark

Cheers

An update: got the A0008171801, and it will NOT fit W169, R230 et al - the fixing pins are completely different (to what was shown in the eBay listing), as is the shape of the bottom of the badge.

I have advised MB Newcastle and they've now removed the second photo (showing wrong pins and shape) from their listing.

Here's a couple of pics of the actual thing:

Such a shame, it would've been perfect for a black car.

Contemplating a DIY solution to fix it, but I hate that kind of "fittings" ...

That's a bummer, I have just looked on my SL bonnet badge and I need pins as well.

Thanks for the update,much appreciated

Looks like we are back to searching for it,hope you get all your costs back form MB Newcastle?

I know you are going to try and modify but if it were me I think I would give it back to them and claim postage for return

Thanks

Yes, I suppose I can ask for return postage as the second picture formally does put the listing into the "not as described" category, but ... being perfectly honest, I knew there was a risk, and wouldn't feel right to go nasty on them.

I'm actually going to keep it, and see if I can create a perfect mould (hello JB Weld) of the bottom and pins from my original badge.

An update: I did return the 1801 badge (paid my own postage back ), and bought the 1701 one instead.

This one has a flat (almost) bottom, and two vertical pins, with the bottom one in the exact same position, as 169, 203, et al, however the top pin is off-centre, as it's the twist and lock type - here they are side by side (the black one is on the left):

I relocated the top pin - had to fit a steel pin centre to keep the original plastic square, and filled it with JBWeld:

Added 3M VHB Automotive double-sided tape:

Now I needed to fill the recess in the bonnet, so I have something to stick the 3M tape to. To be honest, I never expected to see a 42mm recess on a 169 - it's not like they were ever available with a plain grille and the upright star! - it's pretty useless, worse in fact, as it lets the water run under the badge, as fixing sleeves are down from the bottom of the badge, sitting in the recess.

Filled it with ABRO Steel:

Masked, flattened, cleaned, 3M tape warmed up ... and the badge is finally fixed. Went in like a glove, spot on, straight and square (so pin relocation worked :p):

Happy with the result, looks much better on a [small] black car, I think.

Thanks Alastair, the new bits just show, how old bits are not in a top shape - haha - the paintwork next to the new badge is looking positively tired now ... it's never-ending.

I do enjoy doing it though
