Thinking of getting a SL...

I would expect more grip with wider tyres in both wet and dry conditions and i think the wider tyres look good but as Malcolm said they do cost more to buy and i would think are noisier than a narrower tyre although i don't know if this would be noticable. In snow a wider tyre is at a disadvantage so luckiy down south we dont get much of that.

Indeed the wider the tyre the noisier they are, re the grip, its all to do with the foot print, and some surfaces worse with wider tyres.

Hi again

Things are moving on and I now need to arrange an inspection. Car is in the Bournemouth area and the owner is happy to take it to a place for inspection.

I have found Star Tech and KarTechnic in that area. Had a quick chat with both yesterday and they seem like they offer similar services. Anyone have any opinion or experience with either of these? Whichever it is, will need to be in Christchurch or Poole.

Haven't had any experience of either Bal , sure some others on here must have ..have heard Star Tech mentioned on here before but tbh never heard of Kar Technic . Looking at their respective websites STAR Tech go into more specific detail on Mercedes ...

Kar Technic have mixed reviews. Star Tech .. whenever I contacted them I got no response ... where is the car? I'm in Bournemouth and don't mind giving it a quick look over but I'm no mechanic .. might save you forking out though if I spot something ..your shout..

Thanks mate, but I really want it on a ramp and plugged into the diagnostics. Have booked it in with Kartechnic as they had a spot available.

Do be aware that SL's can throw up pages of fault codes that normally mean nothing other than the rear battery has gone low at some time.

All one does is to clear all the meaningless codes, re start the car and quick test via F5 and see what comes up.

Will bear that in mind when I talk to the inspection guys. It was serviced recently so I'm not expecting much to come up - fingers crossed.

Sorry, got tied up with some work and family stuff.

Quick update - inspection came back all clean (few bits of wear and tear to sort out, but nothing major). Now just need to sort out the admin side of things.

Hopefully will be able to change my signature from Merc Wannabe to something else...
