Hi All

Ive just decided my current car has just about run its course. After 7 years beloved Mitsi Galant Sport is destined car heaven and im looking around for a replacement.

I went off to see a C180 BE AMG Sport 2dr Coupe tonight, 81k on the clock with FSH priced at 8950. Small ding on the front left panel but otherwise a very tidy car with the lovely glass sun roof. Im off to see an Audi tomorrow but to be honest i quite fell in love with the C Class.

Can anyone here suggest something i should know about these cars before making the plunge? Would i soon be due a particularly costly service for example? Something im not clear on is when the timing chain would need to be done as im told the cams are done as well bringing that to roughly £1500 with vat?

If you are looking for a petrol car then look for a C250CGi, 1.8 Twin Turbo petrol, superb engine and very punchy.

Servicing is yearly and the car will tell you when.

There is no fixed schedule for timing chains. Some early M271 engines had issues with timing chains (but by 2012 those issues should be long gone) and in those cases cams may have been replaced as part of that work but I've never heard of it as part of scheduled maintenance (perhaps an Indy can confirm?)

I would love one but my requirements have pushed that option out of price. Really dont want to go older that 2012, if i started looking at 2008 for sure quite a few but they all have well over 120,000 on most and at the end of the day its now a 10 year old car. I know these are built to last but quite keen to get something with a few more gadgets than were available back in 08.

The W204 Coupe was only released in 2011 so that will limit the options.

Keen to find out what options this car had fitted tech wise. Any way i can easily find out?

So far i know it has Sat Nav, Tyre Pressure, Auto Lights, (Auto Wipers im not sure, it rained on the way home and nothing happened). I see it has ESP as well and looking in the manual a.m. I understanding it correctly that turning that off is essentially sport mode? I don’t have the AMG menu on my dash so I was guessing probably not.

I don't think Sport mode affects the ESP. I just alters the way the auto gearbox changes (holds gears for longer) and may alter your steering and suspension settings depending what options your car has.
