Ok might not stand up in court but let me explain.
I started posting here and reading other posts before collecting my MB.
On this post 14-5-06 http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=18173
I mentioned the heater controls flashing. Eventually the heater was working intermittently and there was no cold air at all, always hot. So i went back to garage and they had the car a day nothing done as they were overloaded with work. Owner stated no problem if I run over the warranty date as I was being reasonable about there not being able to check it that day. Took it back on the next date fixed, the mechanic that works on the MBs on holiday. Ok says me no problem but i was going on holiday as the mechanic returned and the warranty would be well gone by then. No problem Im told Im still covered.
Now I get back from holiday book car in for a week later and they find the heater unit is failing ( something to do with pins that project from the back of the unit that control the gubbins behind etc. Sorry cant be more technical ) The long and short being the whole unit needed replacing the owner tells me replacement and work is going to cost me over £400.
No way says I, you said this would be covered by warranty.
He says this wasnt mentioned as a problem at that time.
Argument continued for a few more minutes getting more heated. My hands were just about to go for his throat when I spotted his desktop PC. That connect to Tinternet says me .
Yes.
So brought up forum and pointed to MY DATED POSTS.
Ah says he but you cant expect me to pay that much for repair I would be losing money on the sale to you.
Not my problem says I, unless you arent a man of your word. (which wasnt in much doubt as he tried to scr*w me because of the amount of cash for repair.)
He then offered a compromise a second hand unit fitted. Fine by me as long as it works.
No luck getting second hand unit so he puts in the new one and has to bring in an electrician from outside (more money) to do the work.
Now he asks me if I would be willing to go halves on the costs?
Mostly I am a reasonable guy, but someone steps on my toes it makes me angry. (If he hadnt tried to scr*w me I probably would have went halves.)
So I refused telling him I wouldnt have bought the car if the faults had shown on first inspection. Plus I had the warranty he explicitly gave me.
They still had my car at this time so I was trying to stay calm.
He handed me my car keys and asked whether I would at least pay towards the outside electrician?
I said what the hell and put £100 on his desk and walked.

Next day was when I noticed the reversing lights were not staying on.

As i say in that thread I went straight to the mechanic avoiding the owner.
The mechanic thinks he may have caused the problem when stripping out the dash and console. He is a good guy and took car in. Even though he found he hadnt caused it. He didnt charge a penny. At time of writing he is looking out for a secondhand box for me.:D And im looking out for a nice bottle of malt to drop in for him at christmas.
By the way this is not a MB specific garage.

Forgot to say all heater controls light up and work as they should now. It does take about 5 minutes before the vents blow cold but assume this would be normal from blowing hot. Not that they are going to be blowing cold in this weather .
Oh and the switches for the electric windows now light up, I didnt even know they did lol.

Nice to know that its coming to a happy ending. When you are buying and selling you cant win them all, I know, but then I do trade honestly.
