I would say you need to carry out an actuation test on the part in question, if it doesnt work then check the wiring to it for live, earth and signal and if thats ok then I would likely condemn that part.

Its part of the inlet manifold system, bolts to the side and top of it. I would suggest you get it to someone who has a STAR machine.

Icarsoft MB V2 will cost you £145 ish, you might be better getting yourself to a Mercedes independent with Star though long term might be the cheaper option than guessing codes and resultant fixes

Yes, you may find yourself chasing fault codes and replaceing parts based on incorrect guesses by aftermarket readers.
