If anyone ever finds out what the hell happened I would love to know the answer.

I think its a german software engineer ensuring the great war doesn't reach its centenary

21, 26 and 27 march 1918 were all key dates... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Michael
may be he'll give up his fight on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month and let our clocks work. I hope merc sack him !

This is a bug that affects the W221 S and W216 CL. We had two cars in this week for the same issue. Loading the latest firmware doesnt resolve it either.

There isnt a fix (yet). Dont waste your money asking the dealer to look at it. they will tell you they cant fix it and here is a bill!
Alfie

Are Mercedes working on a fix or are we expected to "live with it"?

Had the same problem on My 2007 S500 & wife's 2006 S350. Persisted with resetting attempts to change date in Command/Vehicle/System - Time & Date since BST ended; all with zero success. It always reverted to a date in March 2018.
Got both cars out this morning and was about to disconnect the service battery to power down the systems to reset but decided to check date/time before doing it - to find both cars had changed overnight to show the correct day. I hate technical mysteries so has anyone got an explanation?
Just checked mine and yes it had changed to November 10th. Time was still one hour fast - i.e still on summer time. Went into the time zone menus and the tick option for auto summer/winter time was not showing - it had 2 options for either standard time or summertime. As summer time was selected I changed it to Standard time and the time corrected on the Comand Screen but did not update the analogue clock. Went back to check the date and its gone back to March 27th 2018 and I can alter it?? Also the tick option is back for summer/winter time but changing does not alter the time??

My car is booked into a main dealer on 22nd November so i will show them this post when I take it in but it seems clear to me its a bug affecting all the W221'S like Alfie said

Not just W221s. R230s have issues as well - some will only show the date as 1999 (which is before they were even made).

There's clearly a bug in the software MB use to derive the time and date from the GPS information.

guess what, went to mine this morning and yep it's gone back to march!! I think it's the Russians buggering about in cyber space.
This has to be a satellite problem.

This has to be a satellite problem.
If it were a satellite problem every device on the planet that uses GPS time would be affected.
It's far more likely to be a software glitch in the algorithms Mercedes use.

Change the time zone and see if your date goes back to March like mine

that's exactly what it did on mine,

it MUST be linked to "a mistake in the software" which from the specific dates its fixated on and the centenary probably means some grumpy old git who retired before 2018, spent far too many hours putting a joke in the system..... I think we will discover my ref to WW1 is the driver

21 mar 1918 was germany's big push to regain the upper hand and win the war...

FYI 25 mar was the date we went to BST this year so not exactly linked with the specific dates its stuck with now

what i can't understand is the temporary reversion to the correct date then the reoccurrence of the fault.

if it's a mistake in the software is it going to be possible that a software update will cure it ?

if its software..... I very much think its game over, even though it would take a software engineer about 10 mins to spot the bug, 3 seconds to fix it and at least 30 mins for Merc to add it as an update on their servers by about October the 30th 2018 !!!.... its never going to happen.

If its happening on the very last ones with NTG3.5 they'll need to do the work as those are not yet 7 years old… but having then worked out what's required they won't bother to put the very same file out there for ours.

in the vain hope anyone from Mercedes Benz actually cares... perhaps you can put a later postcode list in with any software update.... having a list that's still from 2009 and missing 500,000 addresses off is not helpful... especially when the disc is £196

after all TomTom update their postcode database 4 times a year for free

As Botus says its highly unlikely MB will feel the need to fix it no matter how simple it is.
Is it a safety issue? No.
Is it going to cost them money to do nothing? No.
Will most people even notice? No.

Net result Will they fix it? No.

Just called MB customer Services nationally. They just said take the car to the dealer for a trained technician to look at it. What sounded like a young chap (Gareth) declined to say whether he knew about this issue or to pursue it internally with technical colleagues. I explained everything that has happened. He wasn't interested in this thread and just apologised. Can I suggest everyone calls MB Customer Services on 00800 9777 7777. I e-mailed them last week but have had no reply so I think its time to exert some pressure with a few more calls.
