2017 '17' Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi ST Line X 180 (sorry)
I too prefer the forum divided by technologies, not models.

For instance I've found out far more about my specific 170bhp 646EVO engine from posts about it in an E rather than a C, as it wasn't in the W204 for that long.

agreed. I am also a member of a Ford forum where I was wanting information on a 2.0 TDCi engine fitted to my Mondeo. I found (after much searching) the info needed in the S-MAX section. same engine as the focus, Mondeo, transit, kuga, edge and galaxy models, but I had to trawl through EVERY SINGLE ONE until I found the info, or had to ask and be directed. either way a pain in the proverbial. this method works MUCH better, unless its model specific which in most cases is rare.

This forum, as well as MBClub, are fantastic at answering questions and helping with issues. I have started frequenting a couple of Audi forums and they are virtually dead! Posts seem to be read but hardly ever answered, at least my posts aren't, and requests for help can wait days if not weeks for a response.

I agree, lotsa common info will be hidden if divided in model specific threads (they use that method in US forums)

IMHO W163 is worst MB after W168... of course engine technology is same in all that age models, where engine is used in across the model ranges.

The great thing about this forum is it does not matter what model you have, but put a post with an issue and you will get lots of great answers from many who have never had that model, but know so much about mb,s in general !
In fact make a post about virtually anything non car related and there is usually someone who has expertise in that field!

Crossing models gets more views imo therefore maybe attracting someone who is in a position to answer most likely IMO

Did 119K miles in a CLK270CDI. Issues not really faults, front suspension bushes, one rear shock absorber, & fuel injectors replaced. Not surprised there is little chat on the 270.

Male pattern baldness, is the genetic predisposition for hair to...

Sorry wrong thread! :rolleyes::D

I like the format this forum has adopted, there is an informed response to the vast majority of issues raised by posters and solutions are reported, a common shortcoming with other forums ;):D

I can see your reasoning in having "sectors" for different models. I wonder though if it would be beneficial?, I'm thinking that owners with each specific model would be attracted to their section and maybe not interested so much in other particular cars. Therefore would we lose valuable input from owners that have had several types previously.
I have only owned the one Mercedes and so I am naturally drawn to posted problems with CLK's,however reading posts in the "general" section I get a better understanding of other MB cars that may come my way in the future.
Your assumption may well be correct in that they ML270's are relatively trouble free ( I don't know)but I hope for you it carries on that way.
Just my thoughts :)

HI
Yes that makes sense, however if you would consider a very important fact, that every person who joins a forum is not the same, some members would be considered experts, and some halfway and the rest like myself complete starters, so speaking from the starter/beginners point of view, it can be daunting, confusing and time confusing when one is sifting through hundreds posts, threads without any success, as ones, posts and threads are not being addressed, because at that very moment in time, one is (as someone like myself) usually in great trouble with some dire predicament/fault with the car itself.
I believe there are people like myself, who are enthusiastic, to learn, but the underlying factor is always on saving money whenever they can on repairs, parts etc.
I previously owned a Mitsubishi Shogun, and on one of their forums, you had a some of the senior members would recommend to actually take the car to a main dealer for repair.....even simple repairs at that !
As an example my latest problem is i am not getting any heat in the cabin, even though i have replaced the thermostat and extensively bled the cooling system....I have now been informed by members that it could be heater flaps or the heater matrix, as i am a novice i do not have clue as to what or where these components are let alone how to go about fixing them
so the task now becomes daunting and irritating as i am sifting through past posts and hoping that someone somewhere in the past may have had the same problem......but no luck
That is why i was prompted to start this thread about individual model sections could be and would be helpful
when my car is running fine, I actually do go onto the forums and read articles, threads, posts and topic related to other than my vehicle also, especially when the family is watching Eastenders and Coronation street or far more worse when someone is watching how to remove body hair using hot Brazilian Wax techniques !

The thing is almost all Mercedes use the same methodology to get things done. For example the gearboxes, suspensions, engines, locking is fundamentally the same principles for all cars (possible exception being FWD models).
In your case the heating system will be similar to C, E, S, SL, SLK, CL, CLK variants with just detail differences depending on whether the you have automatic or manual air conditioning (something not mentioned on the thread). Clearly there will be detail differences as to exact component location but the principles will be the same.

More that specific assemblies will be the same, there’s a huge amount of carryover between models and across range.
