Touch Control Pad Splits .. watch the heat ( 2016 W205 C Class Estate )

    I may be unlucky but after the blazing sunshine heated my pad to virtually untouchable , a split appeared on the surface the following morning. It still works though.
    The unit was not knocked or scratched but seems to have split as it cooled down.

    I cant find a similar fault elsewhere on the net and for a while I thought that MB was reluctant to cover the replacement costs.....£400 plus fitting plus VAT
    Has anyone else experienced something similar?

    Happily it's being fixed under warranty but now that I need to protect the centre consul when parking in the sun …... it's a nuisance.

    Surely it must just have been a flawed unit.
    Plenty of these cars in California, Saudi etc.
    They must be built to take the heat?

    Black absorbs sun light and gets hotter than other colours. Maybe they should be silver.
    I've been using a sun blind on my dash all this hot spell to stop my steering wheel leather degrading.
