tracing lost service history

my r170 came without any service history , so im looking to see if I can dig any up , any of the MB traders on here able to help at all ?

Any dealer stamps in the service book? I used those in my 968 to contact garages that had serviced her and got quite a lot of info from them. Other possibility is either a main dealer or MB indie with access to MB's online service records from the VIN/reg of the car.

Damn that’s annoying! If you even had one service sheet with the code on, then one of the Indy’s I’m sure could do it for you, but without that I think you’re goosed

Surely the VIN and/or reg number should allow the car to be found on the computer based records, either by a main dealer or an indie with the correct access to MB's system (I know some can update service records so may also be able to access history).

Doesn’t the previous keeper know where a service was carried out ? Even if he/she has lost the book/printout , they must have an idea where, even a Town ?

Cars of that age are not on DSB, and dealers history's are not linked, plus you have data protection to contend with. I doubt you'll get it but good luck in the hunt for it.

bembo449, I love doing stuff like this, searching, tracking, and apprehending.............First thing to check is the mot check history, you can see who did the mot's by putting in your V5c number, this in turn should bring up the testers address etc. You should be able to contact them for some details about the car and if you are lucky they might be able to slip accidentally some other type of details
It's worked for me in the past, hopefully it's still available for you to at least make a start to trace some history.

Don't let "data protection" put you off - I had this when I asked MB Brentford for printouts of the services they'd carried out after supplying my S203 new and servicing it (I was second owner, private purchase). At first they said they could not because of data protection - but I told them I had the first owners name etc from the V5c! Eventually they capitulated, printed the service invoices, cut the name etc off the top and posted them to me.

Conversely, when I bought the S204 from MB Ashford (they'd supplied it new and serviced it) the salesman printed off the invoices without problem. Equally, when I contacted Porsche Guildford about my 968 cab, they happily printed off anything they had about the car and sent it to me!
