By the way, latest I've heard is that it wasn't sarin but phosgene. Sarin would have contributed very high casualties to the unprotected first responders and that wasn't seen. Phosgene fits the symptoms shown (frothing at the mouth, severe breathing difficulty etc.)

Yesterday saw the Syrian forces conduct a chlorine shell bombardment. Gas attack called and green clouds spotted rising over buildings. It's not good.

First Reports Coming Out of Afghanistan: MOAB Killed 100 ISIS Fighters

On Thursday, President Donald Trump authorized the U.S. military to drop a 21,000-pound bomb on ISIS in Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan.

There are currently no reports from the Department of Defense regarding casualties or damage. But Independent Journal Review spoke to Ahmad Wali Sarhadi, a freelance journalist based out of Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Sarhadi gave us a report from the local officials in Nangarhar:

"Yeah, I am on the line with local officials of Nangarhar. They say a big complex of ISIS has been destroyed by the dropping of the bomb from the U.S.!

ISIS's biggest complex in Afghanistan is destroyed. They say more than 100 ISIS members are killed. The casualties may get higher."

Sarhadi also noted that while there are no official reports on civilian casualties yet, an official has said that they're still possible.

While other information on the attack will surface in the coming hours, this is one of the first reports on known casualties.

According to this initial casualty estimate, this would be one of the most effective military strikes against ISIS yet.

Reports have said that the whole complex was thoroughly ringed with IEDs and mines, and the MOAB rather neatly rolled them all up. Far better than sending the PBI in.

NB that is the biggest non nuclear weapon in the US inventory. That represents a step change in attitude from "sufficiency" to "overwhelming force" asit should be.

There are a few things with Assad here:

1. He chanced his arm on behalf of his principal (Iran) and is now upset that he's had his fingers bitten off.
2. He didn't order it, but one of his officers decided to take the initiative and do it anyway. Remember we have unconfirmed reports that the pilot flying that strike died in a car bombing of his own personal vehicle on Tue night (might have been Wed). Dictators do not like failure especially when it's on the world stage.

The USAF and USN have both produced the track charts of the flight that launched the strike. They're entirely unambiguous and clearly show the strike taking off, flying to the target that was hit and landing on the airfield that was then hit by the USN strike. The time of aircraft closest point of approach to the target area exactly coincides with the timing of reports coming out of that area. So unless all that was fabricated by the Americans it's good enough for a court.

The other thing of interest is the surgical precision of the US attack. The airfield, contrary to the media, was NOT targeted (and Tomahawk-E is a ****e weapon to use for that purpose anyway). Instead Syrian strike aircraft were individually targeted, along with fuelling facilities, munitions dumps, pumping facilities, ILS facilities, comms and so on. They destroyed the expensive hard to replace things, not the cheap, quick and easy to repair/ replace things.

Can't comment on the veracity of their missiles in the parade. What I can say is that their demonstrated level of missile technology, performance (range/ throw weight) wise, is where the US was in around 1957-8 with THOR. That's immaterial though as POLARIS was already in the fleet (sub launched so the range requirement dropped dramatically over ground based), and ATLAS was in the wings (true intercontinental range). Warhead wise their last initiation (supposed to be true fusion) very roughly approximated the Model 1561 used at Hiroshima, 8.5kT, as recorded by the various satellites and seismic sensors.

They do have one operational missile boat. It's diesel-electric and has a Soviet configuration that the Soviets haven't built since the Cuban Missile Crisis- for a reason. It's also very noisy, suffers very badly from blade beat as the Norks don't understand how propellers work very well. It's that noisy it has been tracked by British, American and Australian submarines at ranges of over 200 miles (one crew thought their rangekeeping computer was broken as it was showing 400k yards, they thought it was 40k and took several minutes of maneuvering to determine otherwise...)

The main thing is that right now, the US has around fifteen times more ballistic missile defence missiles than the Norks have missiles to shoot, whether or not they could cross the Pacific (which they can't).

I think it would be rather amusing if the next one blew up as well and did some serious damage on the coast as it was launched!
- After all if the Russians can (allegedly) hack US elections (and just 4 days ago according to Reuters it was claimed they also hacked the Brexit vote!) and at the same time, the NSA can "monitor" global bank activities, it shouldn't be too hard for Uncle Sam to hack just one little NK missile launch should it?
