I posted a while back about a problem we were having with the DPF in our car. We've done several of the things which were recommended to us such as using Archoil, doing a regen - everything bar having the DPF removed and cleaned.
The car was ok for a couple of months, then the engine light came back on. We got it checked and the error suggested the DPF again. We were asked various questions about how it was running and the mechanic took it out for a drive and said he didn't think it was the filter based on how it was driving, and suggested we replace the sensor. This was done and it ran fine for a few months before the engine light came on again. A check on a (non star) machine suggested that the soot levels were quite low.
Since a few days ago, the car has developed a high pitched noise reminiscent of the clutch going back in the day, but perhaps more shrill and whiny. The mechanic thought it might be something to do with the turbo and that this could be causing the DPF to get sooted up.
We've just had it on a STAR machine and the error codes were:
2509-002 Check component N33/2 (Heater booster control module). Positioner signals fault.
2621-002 Ash content of diesel particulate filter TOO HIGH
There are various other bits and pieces which are showing signs of wear and tear such as the steering rack, possible leak from the injectors, ball joints etc. The car is 13 years old and has very high mileage (220k).
We're worried that this could end up costing us a lot of money when the car is only worth around £2k max. We're thinking that perhaps it's time to get rid of the car (scrap it?) and get something newer and just wondered whether others who understand cars a lot better than we do thought it was worth trying to sort out the problems we have with it.
