Iv searched and searched but still cant find an answer!

Can the n/a 606 be turbocharged into a superturbo diesel with the fitting of a turbo and fuel pump or are the internals not strong enough?

Cheers

It's in the detail, extra oil cooling spray to the pistons that means an 'NA to forced' conversion is onerous, to match the OEM spec. That kind of think, too hard to be worth retro-fitting.
As W210 E300TDs are so cheap and plentiful (falling of the banger plateau to scrap metal), why bother using a rarer NA 606 engine?

I know, It's probably because you have one.

Yes i have one, yes they are strong, but not as strong as a turbo version.

The n/a has narrower conrods and thats it! Oil squirters not being in the n/a is a myth on a multivalve om606. Lack of oil squirters is on the earlier 603 engines.

That info is straight from the horses mouth so i will be crackin on with the turbo build!

Cheers

Well the engine lasted around 15mins before it gave up!

Did the water mod for the water, swapped the sump for a 606.962 sump and removed the oil warmer. Had to modify the oil pump for this. Had it all built up, dpuk pump on, had it running lovely, drove nice then decided to do a burnout! The holset spooled up, loads of black smoke. Lifted off and it started missfiring!

Refurbed the injectors - still no good, took the head off as the valves were leaking- comp test, but while the head was off i turned the crank and no.3 and no.4 conrods are bent. No.3 about 5mm and no.4 about 10mm!

So, a quick tip if your planning on an n/a turbo build. Dont be an idiot n try a burnout, and id fit a set of turbo rods!!!!!

I think you have found out why the rods are thicker in the turbo engine then. but done right, ive seen videos of the OM606 turbo pushing 400+bhp. (or at least they CLAIM they are)

Are you rebuilding with better rods?

No, i think the head is scrap due to corrosion so im just going to source an engine and stick a turbo one in.
