Hi Folks, When I got my Merc, the salesman put on new tyres, now I have to admit, I would have been happy with the tyres that were on the car as there still seemed plenty of tread on them, but he insisted he'd give me new tyres, and who am I to turn down a good deal, even though the car had only done 63,000 miles, and he put new tyres on.

However, every time I start the car up, I get a warning to check my tyre pressures, and then, after a while, I get a warning in red telling me to urgently check my tyre pressures, at first, I would check the tyre pressures, but after a while, I've learnt to ignore this message and press the menu up, is there any way I can stop this, more annoying than anything else, warning, I've been through the manual trying to find a way to stop it, but I can't find anything, any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

If the pressure in your tyres is correct and the tire pressure warning is still on, the TPMS may need to be reset. To do so, press the ignition button, press the left or right button on your steering wheel to access the Service menu, and then press the "OK" button. Navigate through the service menu until you see the "Tyre Pressure" highlighted. Press "OK," and the pressure of each tyre should be displayed. Press the down button until the display asks to use the current tyre pressures as a reference value. Press "OK" one last time, and you will receive a confirmation that the TPMS has been restarted.

If this doesn't work go back to the dealer as they may have damaged a sensor.

Depends what's fitted to the car. Direct TPMS monitors pressure & temp in each wheel with an expensive sensor and can tell you the pressure in each wheel. Tyre deflation monitoring uses the ABS to look for a wheel that's spinning a little faster than the others. The car then says check all your tyres. You then reset the system when all tyres have been inflated to the correct pressure

Had this on the TPMS on the SL. We replaced the tyres after 12 months and found that all 4 sensors were missing! Seems strange to me that the supplying dealer chose to replace all 4 tyres on yours when as you say the tyres were OK . Dealers aren't renowned for spending money when not necessary. Some connection perhaps although cant figure out what, apart from as mentioned above one or more sensors have been damaged.

No pressure/temp sensors fitted to cars that have a tyre deflation warning ie one that uses its ABS sensors
Yep obviously quite correct. On the SL you could see where the sensors had been - must have been removed by previous owner who didn't want to spend the money on new ones. (And I still haven't!)

Malcolm AKA Television said that the car can be re-programmed to use the ABS sensors ..... I've no personal experience though

Ah interesting that - but probably beyond my tech ability. Bh will just have to put up with annoying messages on the dash until I get round to buying new sensors.

It's not a user option but one that has to be done via STAR

the world changed you can buy sensors that'll work for 10 quid each

just been reading up on the BM bike ones, you dig out some mastic type gunge and swap the £2.99 CR2032 battery over and get another 10 years trouble free motoring

also now believe legislation changed

post 2011 it was mandatory to have a form of low tyre pressure warning and lots went to the unreliable ABS sensor trick
post 2014 you must have real pressure sensors - but you don't have to have an individual pressure display, just the real warning (which would explain why this is exactly what my mates Nov 2015 Mondeo has)

seems you get two types of sensor...

those told to wake up by the controller
and the ones on my bike where they must go above 30kph before they come to life (just went down the road and it does need to go this fast - they then stay awake for 15 mins after no motion). Quite odd as a mate with a different BM of similar age can just turn on the key and use the display there and then to set pressures. But they still use the same part number as mine on quite a few later bikes. It would make the battery last much longer.
