I have a w205 C220 Bluetec. It has 18" wheels with run flat tyres. The rears are only delivering around 6000 miles. Two questions. 1. Is this the norm? 2. Can I opt to have normal tyres and carry either a space saver / tyre inflation kit. I have been told that not having run flats could invalidate my insurance. So long as I stick to the recommended sizes, weight / speed loads then why does it matter?

I've replaced the original Continentals with Continentals and Pirellis but no difference in usage. Its in for servicing this weekend so am asking them to check out the whole rear suspension just incase something is amiss there.

    any ideas

    Did the tyres wear evenly??

I set my pressure to 2pis under the recommended, they wear more evenly

Try Goodyear Eagle Assy3 non run flat and put a can of goop in the boot

    Hi Les

I have a S205 C250 Bluetec AMG line sport (Dec 2014). Purchased it 2 years ago (at 18 months old) and it had Bridgestone Potenza S1 run flats.

In October 2017, with it's first MOT (and Winter) looming, I had these replaced with Michelin Primacy 3 at 19,000 miles. Apart from one tyre which had been changed some time before I got the car (puncture, probably), judging by the date codes on the tyres, the other 3 were almost certainly the originals so, bearing in mind there was still a couple of months tread left (fronts were slightly more down than rear), the wear seems pretty good.

Will have to see if the Michelin's fair so well but I've always assumed that rear tyres wear quicker than the front on RWD cars? That said, my previous S204 was quite heavy on front tyres.

More knowledgeable folk will no doubt give some good input.

    Cheers
    Phil

Thanks for the replies. I dream of 19000 miles :) Yes the tyres wore evenly. I have tried having it in all the different modes, ecomony, comfort etc but haven't noticed any difference. The wheels were balanced and aligned. I took it to the dealers just before Christmas and he said "they are prone to heavy usage" but was expecting more than 6000 miles. I know Run Flats are reinforced on the side walls and give less flex hence my decision to go for "normal tyres" with gunk in the boot. I don't drive like a numpty, 50 on the A road into work and 75 on Motorway.

I had the car serviced on Saturday and got them to properly check out the rear end. They asked me where I bought my tyres? answer ATS!!!!! Next question was "do I know who their supplier is" as the tyres can sometimes not be what they appear to be.?????!!!!!. After answering another handful of questions I left it with them. Nothing found but was told on the side that this c class model is prone to heavy wear rates on run flats. Advice is to go to "normal tyres" and see how they wear. Got it MOT'd at the same time on the old test. Think I'll get another two months driving out of these then go on the hunt for normal tyres. Thanks for replies
