Got as far as laying the maps out on the table and marking off Alpine passes to try and get a few on the route . Taking a petrol CLK convertible
This got me thinking if I need to buy any type of certificates for different countries for various emissions zones ? Can anyone think of anything else I need for the following countries .
1 France , already have Crit Air stickers , and a sanef toll tags
    2 Germany ?
3 Switzerland , I know about the motorway Vignette and will buy one there if necessary
    4 Austria ?
5 Italy ? (May go over the border to the Selvio pass )
    6 Belgium ?

We did Italy last year and no vignettes were required, same with Belgium.

Need emissions sticker for Germany - not sure which cities - I had to get one for Stuttgart. Very simple process online.

u pay to use Austrian motorways, its good value but get caught without the sticker and u'll wish u had it.... (most garage forecourts sell it)

they think they can drive, but the roads have no grip at all, the whole place smells of cow sh*t and plod like to do speed traps on weekends

Austria requires vignette, not expensive can get it at the first garage after entering (if you enter on a motorway and they don't stop you at the border to buy one). Emissions requirements depends on cities. If avoiding big ones/city centres should be OK.

Be careful with speeding in France, they've been cracking down recently and 40kph (25mph over limit) and you'll be banned from driving there and car impounded unless someone else you are with can carry on the drive. TBH I think the days of excessive speeding on the continent are gone in most of those countries, possibly with the exception of Italy where it's still normal for a third of the traffic to be driving over 100 on a motorway.

You only need an umwelt plaquette in Germany if you want to drive into one of the affected city centres. Might be easier to park and ride if you want to go into a city.
Austria has a vignette sticker at the borders.
AA website shows all this info also.

Oh that’s ok then. The Stelvio has 7000’ straight drops to the valley floor :)

Within a couple of weeks . I've just ordered the German emissions sticker and have email confirmation , I already had the French Crit air sticker , Swiss motorway one I'll buy at the border . The Austrian one will only affect me on a section of motorway from Innsbruck , which I may avoid it depends how much it is .
(Unless none of that was the reason for your question :D)

I am toying with something similar in October - I avoid the holiday seasons and we have friends visiting in September and other commitments so October is the soonest. Just thought that our paths might cross!

We did the Stelvio a couple of years ago. It was a little disappointing as there was a lot of traffic - including cyclists, tractors and trucks. There are other passes etc that offer better driving roads.
