My car is a CLK 2006 (face lift) 320CDi. Currently fitted with staggered 7.5/8.5J wheels

I am thinking of fitting a set of wheels part number 2084010702 fitted with 7" 205/55/16. offset of 37

I believe the offset is right but as my current wheel is 17" I am hesitating". I have read that going a little smaller is no bad thing in the winter but I guess the circumference will remain the same as the tyre makes up the difference . Does anyone know if this wheel will fit ?

You will have guessed by now that tyres are a closed book to me !

Your insurance company won't be too impressed if they're not a standard size for your car.

Pretty sure they won't fit. Your car is a w209 (check the VIN - it's the first three numbers). Earlier w208 wheels (first three digits of part number) will use an M12 bolt with a 12mm (R12) radius head. Your car uses M14 bolts with an R14 head. You cannot use wheels designed for an M12/R12 bolt on your car.

Thanks LostKiwi. This is a real voyage of discovery (not !). I checked a number of sites out this afternoon during a quiet hour at work and the one thing I gleaned is that (they say) both the 208 and the 209 have an M12x15 bolt 40 mm long with a 17 mm hex head - is this not so then ?

I'd be surprised....
But it's always possible. By 2003 they were using M14s in other cars so I'd have thought yours would too. If not it must be one of the last models to use M12.

Ok looks like yours does take M12 so yes they should fit.

Blimmey. Even the guys who understand this stuff get confused. So - wheel bolts issues resolved (Probably).
Does anyone know if the wheels will fit ??

If I understand correctly 16 and 17 inch wheels were offered on the CLK with rims from 7.0 to 8.5
